iPad's Lack of Flash and Openness a Blow to Publishers

Last year I called lack of Flash support on the iPhone the real Apple Tax. This is still the case and since this post, TMC had to spend significant development resources to create an iPhone specific site which converts our video from Flash to H.264.

The iPad will not have Flash support either - or multitasking for that matter. Today, Silicon Valley Insider explains that this new Apple tablet touted as a publishing savior will actually hurt media companies because their ads which are currently written in Flash need to be rewritten via the iPad SDK.

Is Wow Mobile Doomed Already?

Peter Radizeski of RAD-INFO thinks Wow Mobile is doomed. To be fair, Peter is cynical but then again, he is right most of the time. In this case he thinks a MLM, get-rich scheme which sells mobile service has no chance -- especially when you consider the history of MVNO failure in the US. He has some great points...

Danny Windham, Skype CEO Keynotes ITEXPO East 2010

The day you never get fired for buying "X" are over according to Windham who gave a keynote speech at ITEXPO East 2010 in Miami where he touched on how open-source has been responsible for reducing margins and costs in the communications space. Using Nortel as an example he explained how the value of the the company's enterprise assets dropped from a value of about $100 billion ten years ago to less than a billion dollars today. Open-source as he mentioned is one of the reasons for this drop in value and coincidentally, Digium is now ten years old according to Windham.



Christopher Dean, Skype CSO Keynotes ITEXPO East 2010

Christopher Dean the head of enterprise strategy at Skype keynoted ITEXPO this morning explaining how his company plays in the communications space and expounded on the company's software integration with mainstream televisions. In a survey of the crowd by me after the presentation, a full 25% of the audience said they wanted Skype in their televisions.

Here in Miami, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Jeff Rodman is giving a keynote where he explains how crucial it is to link together technology in such a way that it becomes transparent to users. Moreover he explained how the definition of "Now" varies by person meaning different people are at different stages of life based on time of day, day of week and/or time zone. What cultural implications are there to communicating 24x7?

XG Technologies Interview at ITEXPO East 2010

I had a chance to have a brief interview with Chris Whiteley, Director of Business Development at XG Technologies. He gave me an indication of what the company is up to and where their future lies. One point of interest is that the company has a few new devices coming out and moreover hopes to evolve to become a fables  fabless semiconductor company which leverages their proprietary technology to maximize the efficiency of wireless spectrum.
