Skype Problem

I received these comments on my Skype Interview blog entry today and thought others may be interested. I haven’t heard of any such problems with Skype and am curious to know if this is an isolated complaint or widespread.

I did go onto Skype’s site and find a contact us form that at least allows you to communicate with the company, if not by telephone.

Comment at will:

The CEO of Skype is a very interesting character, but he has failed to set up his www.skype.com website in such a way that Skype users can contact the company.

It would seem only reasonable a telephony company might have a telephone number for customers to reach the technical and billing departments so that, as in my case, the failure of SkypeOut, which is time limited, might be made to work or be refunded.

More telling, if one should want to get money back because of fears SkypeOut (or indeed In) doesn’t work, the fantastic CEO ought to have organised a quick and easy way for his customers to be paid back.

The fact that they don’t provide a company telephone number does create the impression that they can’t be bothered with customer problems. I can say that I have been a SkypeOut customer and tried using their contact form to get help with a problem. I sent a help request but never received a reply to my problem report.

There are some really good things about Skype to be sure. But aside from dropping calls, voice delays and crosstalk … all of which are irritating … my experience with Skype nothing short of disastrous.
In a nutshell – when a call is dropped (which happens well over 90% of the time) my system becomes totally non-responsive.
For YEARS I can’t remember having to reboot my machine so many times over the course of an hour or less. My experience with Windows 3.0 was far more reliable than it has been with Skype.
The system on which Skype 1.3.0.57 is installed: MSI K8N-Neo 4 Platinum systemboard; NVIDIA PCI Express video; FX-55; 2Gb RAM; tons of drive space and a wonderful Plantronics USB headset.
I disabled every startup process & application except for the bare essentials … especially & including Norton AV & firewall. Still Skype becomes wholly unstable during/after a call.
Except for an automated reply from Skype tech support over a week ago, I haven’t heard a peep out of them.
    Any ideas? Anyone, please?

I am gald to see that other people are having problems with skype. I find in most unsatisfactory for skype to skype calls. I have a usb dual phone and it works ok for skype to landlines but since i downloaded the video version of skype recently, i only got it to work on skype to skype for about 2 dasys and now it wont work at all. I have tried reporting the problem but got no feedback. I am now using yahoo messenger with noice and it is far superior with sound quality a lot better than skype and rarely drops the call. If anyone has any similare experience pleas email me.

I use Skype video fairly frequently and experience an occasional dropped call bt not too often. The sound quality seems fine to me but until we have CD quality VoIP sound there is always room for improvement.

I am one of those that have abandoned Skype and not treat them with discust and I detest their practices.
    Skypeout does not work well.
At the same time Skype just notified me that they had “confiscated”, read stolen, my Skypeout deposit as I have not used it in time.
At the same time I can not even contact them.
    Get rid of Skype,
    Bert

WELL THERE YOU GO THAT ANSWERD ALL MY QUESTIONS ABOUT WEATHER OR NOT TO SIGN UP I WIIL PASS LOOKS LIKE EBAY MADE A MISTAKE BUYING THIS LEMON I BET THE CREW HOW SOLD SKYPE TO EBAY FOR ALL THE MILLIONS ARE HAPPY 😉

@Michael: Oh come on. The guy asks for comments from people that have problems, and a few problems show up… obviously.
That should be no reason to cast Skype aside without trying it…
I’m not related to skype, but I am using it with satisfaction, every version since 1.3 or so. I’ve spent about 30-40 euros on SkypeOut in the last 2 years, with 98% successful and satisfactory call quality. For a service that is cutting edge technology, dependent on pc hardware and internet, not to mention cheap, that’s good enough quality for me. 🙂
That said, it does seem that it isn’t always easy to get technical assistance from Skype. 🙁
    – just wanted to bounce back some common sense, IMO 😉

Definitely – Skype is a SKam! I am working abroad and decided to try Skype. The test call worked flawlessly. The second call i made worked passably. Since then I have not been able to make a single call – i have tried perhaps 40 times and the best I can do is about 2 or 3 words per minute. That’s all I hear – about 2 or 3 words per minute.
Basically, I’ve got to accept the fact that
    (1) VoIP is not yet a viable technology
    and
    (2) Skype is basically scamming money from people.
i await my refund…..so i pass the time with silence on the line rending public skype’s crime
    cheers ya’ll,
    -e

I have just uninstalled Skype after encountering a major problem with virtual memory on my PC running MS Windows 2000 Pro. I installed Skype 10 days ago and immediately started running low on virtual memory. I increased this to 700mb which is more than twice 1.5xRAM. Yesterday after working on the machine for an hour it crashed. When the machine eventually rebooted I went into the task manager and examined the pattern of memory use. Much to my amazement even though Skype was offline it had already taken up 100mb of page file memory and was constantly increasing. I have now unistalled Skype, reduced the virtual memory to 320mb and I have had no further problems. Has anyone else encountered this problem. If so, any sugestions as to how it can be resolved. Thanks. Amadeus

Mere words cant do justice, to all the services Skype is providing at bare minimal costs. I have been using Skype for the last 3-4 years, and on an average spend around US $ 50 per month , making Skype out calls. You cant ask more than that, at such throw away rates.

I have been using Skype for several years now and until recently say the last 8 months have been vary happy. Skype out works fine hardly ever an issue. Skype to Skype video is another thing all together. I have what should be the most current version 3.5.0.239 first video calls are consistently dropped which is very irritating and second with this latest version both parties cannot see each other playing with the video under options tool can result in one or the other seeing the person they are talking to but not both. When I see the party I am talking to I can see my own video preview but they can not see me and the opposite is true. I have the same problem of two different lap tops with two different operating systems Vista and XP so it is not a Vista problem. It also does not matter what connect to the net I am on. Is there a compatibility issue with a Logitech Fusion Camera? I have disabled all security software and this has no effect.

I have been a Skypeout customer for a long time. But since yesterday I could no longer sign in with skype. I need to make a lot of international calls everyday. I have got used to it, though they now even charge for getting through! They never tell the customers while they pay for it. I believe it is kind of cheating, taking advantage of the carelessness and trust on them. Now the worst, one can not connect and use it, while the credit has a deadline! And the worst worst: CAN I GET HELP FROM ANY BODY????!!!!
ALL I CAN DO IS: PRAY TO GOD AND CONDEMN SKYPE.

Skype issues? I seem to be going through a traumatic situation here. I get connected quite fine, and I hear clearly the person I called, but they hardly hear my voice clearly. Of course all connected calls (skypeout) gets paid for. A solution please

i’m having same problem i’ve seen reported in numerous places, endless spinning arrow/no connect, and can’t get a response from their technical support people. running windoows xp on a Dell Latitude D810. nothing fancy. no mcaffee, all firewall services turned off, etc. etc.
don’t know how this can be a successful business model the way it is being run currently.
my son’t Macbook talks just fine with his friends Macbooks over skype. maybe skype owns stock in apple……

On new years eve ’08, Skype put a block on my phone. They were charging me monthly when i had already paid for a years subscription and i caught them. After filing a claim with PayPal for an unauthorized transfer they put a block on my service.I paid them $30 for a year phone service in Sep.08 and they still billed me twice($7.95×2) since. But now they won’t honor my credits(still $9.06 remaining) or what i have paid.Maybe they will get it straightened out soon? Oh, did i mention i am a 47yr old single father raising a 3yr old on SSDI(disability)and Skype was my only phone service! They do not have a customer service phone because they are Crooks!!!

I have been using skype for at least 2 years successfully. I am living overseas and recently, I moved to a third country and had to cancel my credit cards in the previous county. As I am waiting to receive the cards for my new accounts, I could not pay for my skype credits or extend my world calling account so I asked a friend to pay for me and gave her cash. Since when did skype start denying customers the choice to decide whether or not they want recurring bills???? Now, I can’t delete my friend’s card from my account!! I do not want reoccurring charges to her account, nor would I mine. She did it so fast that I didn’t notice this change skype had made. Grrrrrrrrrrr! I hate you skype! How dare you skam people into accepting your methods then holding their cards hostage! And to top it off, there is no way to contact anyone. Your website is NOT user friendly. Why must I search and search extend and existing service? Why not have a link right there by your blaring warning sign? Noooooo, that would be too much like right. You do not respond to inquiries. I will tell all of my friends and anyone who can listen that you have become a dirty stinkin’ skam of a company. I have lost all respect for you and once I’ve used all my credits, I will be cancelling my account. I’ll just have to go back to chatting on yahoo messenger and using tpad.

When I use Skype voice calls work okay. The problem is with video calls. I can see the other person but when I turn on my video the program stops working. A dialogue box appears stating that Windows is closing the program because it has stopped working. Any ideas welcome.

I am running the 3.8 version on an XP professional platform and just recently the log entries are immense with Malwarebytes blocking several funny sites mainly from European countries. Does skype have an IP issue that is allowing attackers in to the system.

I have used Skype on and off the past few years. It seems now there is so many users that the quality has gone way down, from when I started using their system a few years ago. Now you can almost never hear a call or get a good connection. Maybe they have overstepped their limits, and taken on too many customers. As of lately, June 15, 2010, I can not even log into Skype. There site does not even seem to connect from Tunisia. I am here on a business trip, and I can’t even log in. WOW! I have credits on my account that I can’t put to good use. I have used their system from Egypt to call US unlimited and it was working fairly well. Anyone else know if Skype is not usuable in Tunis, Tunisia. I know Youtube doesnt work here either. They need a sign at the Airport sayings NO SKYPE, NO YOUTUBE! Then watch 50% of the tourists divert their flights to other accomodating locations.
    Good day!
