ITEXPO Growth of 15 Percent Portends Bright Industry Future

With all the doom and gloom talk regarding the global economy, many attendees and exhibitors came to ITEXPO recently in Miami with low expectations. A few exhibitors told me candidly the show could have been justifiably down 30 percent.
 


Instead, we went into the show with exhibit hall/VIP registration 30 percent ahead of last year. But would they show up?

ITEXPO East 2009 Attendance Up 15%

Thank you all so much for coming to Miami this week.

The numbers are in for ITEXPO East 2009 and the amount of people at the event increased 15% from the same one last year. We could not have done it without you.

We have been absolutely deluged with comments about the quality and quantity of attendance at the show and we are assembling them all in an easily digestible format.

Why is IP Communications Thriving?

The TMC team never sleeps and as soon as yesterday had posted over a dozen interviews of some of the movers and shakers in the service provider and enterprise communications space. These interviews were from ITEXPO East 2009 which took place this week in Miami.

Durung these intervies it becomes evident why IP communications is doing well and moreover, where the greatest opportunities lie.

ITEXPO East 2009 Service Provider Roundtable

Andy Abramson moderated a service provider roundtable session on day 2 of ITEXPO East 2009 in Miami which had participation from Packet8, Broadvox, Telefonica, TW Telecom, and MagicJack. Abramson kicked off by explain how surprisingly great the show was and further explained the companies missing this event may not be around for long.
 


Some items of interest from the event were comments from Huw Rees explaining how his parent company 8x8 is profitable and Vonage is not - which drags down the whole market.

Andy did a great job moderating and asked the carriers on the panel how they make money and he was further able to get at important issues like E911 and how carriers need to recoup investments in this technology.

Another comment I hear over and over which was made on stage has to do with a lack of innovation in our industry. It was a really great session.

Plantronics Looks to Unified Communications for Future Growth

Plantronics recently reported earnings for its third quarter ending 12/31/08 and from the call there is a good amount you can learn about what is happening in communications. It should be noted that entire markets cannot be judged by a single company but since they play in so many markets, it is worth analyzing what they see happening to their business.

On the call, the company mentioned net revenues were down year over year for the quarter at $182.8 million compared with $232.8. The company says office, audio/entertainment and contact center sales were at the low end of expectations.
