We were very happy to be chosen as a top ten wearable tech expert by Nex Band who asked us for the killer apps in this exciting field. If you want know my predictions and some of the others, feel free to read the whole post.

OK, if you read this far - maybe below the fold (the part of the screen you have to scroll to read - term comes from the days of the newspaper), depending on the resolution of your screen, you deserve to see my predictions without clicking. Still, please check out the original post for all the predictions.

There will be two killer apps for mobile in the foreseeable future. One is glasses-based and will be augmented-reality related.

Sennheiser Shows the Future of Work in NYC

April 3, 2017

Sennheiser
and furniture company Wilkhahn recently held a press conference at their pop-up store in Greenwich Village, NY where the audience was treated to great content and the ability to try some of the company's high-end audio products.

The presentation started with pictures which showed the evolution of the office - from tightly packed desks, to offices, to cubes and now more casual informal settings replete with couches, huddle rooms and a few quiet areas for serious work. In other words, our collaborative future.

The takeaway? Well, it wasn't all that different from what many of us heard in the keynote room of ITEXPO in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Companies are changing to suit the tastes of millennials.

2017 Predictions From Rich Tehrani

December 9, 2016

Without further ado, here are my predictions for the new year!!! What do you think?

  1. We will see major financial problems begin to take shape at hardware companies without a solid cloud strategy.
  2. Trump’s new offshore tax rules will bring a flood of cash to tech companies – much of this will be shared via dividends and buybacks but it will also find its way into M&A as well as new product development.
  3. Smart factories with low cost energy will make the US a major force in manufacturing but this prediction will need to take 10 years to play out and thanks to IoT and robotics, the factory of tomorrow will need 1/10th the workers of today.
  4. Chinese cell phone provider Huawei or Xiaomi will become a serious thorn in the side of Samsung – producing low cost phones for hundreds less than the Korean maker and selling them in large numbers outside China.

Aricent: How to be Digitally Durable

June 20, 2016

"APIs are now a business model!"
"A company that has more APIs has more value."

If every industry is being digitally disrupted (it is) then the question companies need to ask is how to remain digitally durable. If you want insight into how to fight off the next wave of innovation before it makes you obsolete, a great place to start is talking to Frank Kern, the CEO of Aricent, the company responsible for helping other companies be disruptive.

If you don't know them, Aricent has a few different practices from security and IoT/embedded to cloud and software defined everything. I last interviewed Frank in 2015 where he shared with us his vision for the future of technology.

Top 10 Mobile World Congress Trends #MWC16

February 29, 2016

I’ve just returned from a whirlwind event for the telecom market known as Mobile World Congress and I’m still amazed by the amount of optimism I’ve just witnessed. It would not be an exaggeration to say this level of excitement about the future of telecom hasn’t been seen since 1998. Although it has great food, the city of Barcelona has a pretty poor economy.

VoicePIN Voice Biometrics Brings New Tech to Phone and Apps

August 31, 2015

The biometrics market has been around for decades but never achieved widespread acceptance until after Apple rolled out TouchID. Laptop makers flirted with the technology about a decade ago but never got their systems to work very well. Apple – to its credit, released a solution which is very good.

Exclusive Interview with Aricent's Frank Kern at MWC 2015

April 3, 2015

It’s been a few years since I've covered Aricent (2012, 2009, 2006) but as fate would have it I was fortunate enough to interview Frank Kern, CEO at MWC 2015. This is one of the companies behind many of the products we use and one you likely don’t know a great deal about. It’s owned by KKR and Sequoia and is a pure-play product innovation services company – Kern explained his they don't do IT and BPO like others in the space.

Another differentiator is the company’s core strength is connectivity and there is a great demand for such services at the moment.

10 Reasons Why Microsoft is Winning

November 11, 2014

With new CEO Satya Nadella at the helm, Microsoft is changing and into something it needs to be. A company embracing a changing tech landscape. It is apparent that Redmond has woken up to the threats that it faces in today’s world. Over the past decade they've been bleeding from a thousand cuts.

Google Glass Hackathon Comes to New York

September 2, 2014

At TMC’s Wearable Tech Expo event this past summer in NYC I had a chance to meet Katy Kasmai who heads up UbiTech, the company behind the Google Glass Hackathon in New York. This next event takes place September 6-7, 2014 – basically next week and has a bunch of prizes associated with it such as $1,000 from Augmate for an enterprise supply chain application.

The price is $25 per person and the event is at WeWork Park South.

I had a chance to interview Katy at the Wearable Tech Expo conference where she explained how she got involved with this market and went on to talk about some important points regarding Glass and associated applications.

Just as the iPhone helped turn phones into application-centric devices, Google Glass looks like it will be the product that makes many of us want to wear smart glasses.
