BYOW: Bring Your Own Wireless

Boy was I excited to learn that in Chicago, the Transit Authority is installing solar-powered WiFi. I was really excited in fact. I thought it might be a number of days in fact before Amtrak and Metro North start to feel the WiFi love as well.

Sadly, the article I read said that the Chicago Transit Authority is installing a WiFi mesh network for their own use. Passengers I guess will have to bring their own wireless devices on the trains. Still, this news is good from the standpoint that rail workers will be able to increase efficiency and subsequently this probably means a better passenger experience
