Kirk Communicator

Captain Kirk - "Retrieve all my email. And oh yeah, beam me up Scotty!"

Most of us have seen at least one Star Trek episode. Then as you already know, Captain Kirk was able to talk into a communicator to have Scotty beam him up to the Enterprise. Star Trek the Next Generation had an advanced speech recognition system that let the Captain Picard simply press his communicator badge to ask the computer to do something. Well, I just found out about this cool product from One Voice Technologies that will essentially let you tell a Media Center Edition PC what to do using your voice and it will do it. Everything from retrieve email, to send email (with .wav recording attached), to VoIP calling on your TV, and more! You can do all of this simply by speaking into the remote control, which kind of reminded me of the original Star Trek communicator. Very cool stuff. Check out what they announced, especially the bold.

Now I should say that as an avid home theater geek, gadget geek, ah who am I kidding, I'm just an all-around geek... Ok, let's start again... As an all-around geek, I already own a
Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 PC (connected to 65" TV) along with a Linksys Media Center Extender (connected to a 17" Disney TV).  I reviewed the Linksys Media Center Extender in my blog and its quite popular with over 7 comments posted, so go check it out.  Anyway, I mentioned in a previous blog entry that I wished I could Skype from my MCE 2005 PC or make any sort of VoIP call. Further, I wished I could have a huge big-screen videoconference on my TV.

Well, this product had videoconferencing capabilities, along with email reading/sending capabilities, and even speech recognition. Now this is damn cool, if you may excuse my geek exuberance!  I would love to review this product.  I will be getting my hands on this product very shortly and will post the review in my blog.  In the meantime, check out some of the info from their website below:
