Here was a new service launch looks like. BTW, satellite was built by Lockheed Martin and the rocket was constructed and launched by Sea Launch.

Yes, Dish Network certainly does go to great lengths to compete with cable. It's surprising, though, how small the rocket is. I've always been curious exactly how the satellite is ejected from the rocket and placed at the precise location in space. Just amazing.

I was just reading a related article posted over at expertsatellite.com written by David Lieberman, of USA TODAY on HD programming and the struggles the cable companies are facing with a high demand for HD. It seems with prices dropping for a new HD ready TV set, cable companies are scrambling to find a way to provide the HDTV programming while dealing with bandwidth problems among other issues. Apparently it's easier for the satellite companies to launch new satellites than it is for cable operators to come up with a good solution. Very good read.
