Nokia N97 Sweet!

nokia n97
The Nokia N97 sports a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (16:9 aspect ratio) resistive touchscreen display with tactile feedback and slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It's heavily focused on social sites like Facebook with its "always open" window to favorite Internet or social networking sites. The N97 also features HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 3.5-mm head jack, and 32GB of on-board memory. With a microSD expansion you can go up to 48GB total memory. The battery is capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback or 4.5 hours video.
Let's compare with the iPhone shall we? The N97 does 16:9 video capture at 30fps while the iPhone incredibly doesn't even do video. Also, it sports a 5 megapixel camera where the iPhone is only 2MP. It of course comes with high-quality Carl Zeiss optics.

The N97 has a QWERTY keyboard which it faster than the touch-screen keyboard on the iPhone (which I hate - give me a slide-out keyboard phone any day). Like the iPhone, the N97 has a touch-screen, but it actually has a copy/paste function. Why on God's green earth Steve Jobs hasn't added that to the iPhone is beyond me. It also has a GPS that can do turn-by-turn directions. Take that iPhone!

Now I'm torn between the N97 and the new HTC Touch HD for my next phone upgrade. Decisions, decisions.

The N97 will launch with a retail price set at around €550 ($693) and the phone will ship in the first half of 2009.

I too am hesitating between N97 and Touch HD, but i think I will go for the N97 mainly for the keyboard, unless they make a Touch "Pro" HD with a sliding keyboard.

;)

But does it have a working SIP stack ?
This is afterall a VOIP Blog.

Is is like a e61/71 with a working SIP stack and exposed menu options or is it like a N95 where you need a 3th party dialer application.

What's about VOIP? Is there a built-in client?

interesting article. i too wonder if it has VOIP.. but i see that skyfire cannot do WVGA screens so there goes flash! there is always something!
