Wow, these guys are gonna lose money. Not that I feel bad when I see software opportunists fail, but who is this for?
Imagine the support calls they're gonna get. Making a ringtone isn't hard. Just about any editor will do (audacity.sourceforge.net anyone?) nicely for the purpsoe of re-encoding and/or cropping to whatever size and scope is supported by your phone.
The only possible tricky part for John Q. Public might be getting the file onto the phone itself, which is where this application can help with their list of "supported" phones.
I guess it's $19.99 well spent if your phone is on the "supported" list and you're too lazy to Google or visit HowardForums.
Tom, were you honestly impressed or did the company put a little something in your stocking to pass this marketing shill off as news?
Nothing under my stocking from them.
I do agree this software has limited use. Only the true newbie would need something like this when free software can do the same.
However, as a gadget lover, even low-end gadget software holds a place in my heart. The sign of a true gadget lover is one that owns many gadgets -- half of which he/she never uses! (including low-end software)
Who ever thought ring tones would be a business?
Hi, I'm Vero at Phone Sherpa. We're one of the longest running and most successful ringtone makers on the market. Lets look at the reasons a ringtone maker makes sense:
First, while any editor will indeed do the job, many phones have strict ringtone specs that are not always obvious. Unless you are a geek like me, you'll go nuts before you figure it out. Phone Sherpa has solved this problem on over 550 phone models;
Second, Phone Sherpa saves time by making the editing easy. Ringtone length is also a parameter set by many phones. Again, we take the guesswork out of this by making the file conversion automatic and invisible;
Lastly, on the subject of support, we have been called out as one of the friendliest companies to deal with and the main reason for that is that we have the broadest phone reach in the market. I should also mention that Phone Sherpa distinguishes itself from most of its competitors by not requiring any software download to your computer and by having a wysiwyg business model free from subscriptions, recurring billing, alerts sign up or any of the myriad of less honorable practices that the free ringtone sites tend to use.
I like make ringtone, because it is very interesting.
Hey,
I got my cell phone not too long ago. I'm not a techie so I was having a hard time just working the thing. I wanted to try this ringtone thing, and I didn't have a clue where to start. I started going to one ringtone site after the other. I even got a some sort of spyware or bug or something from a ringtone software I downloaded at one site. Ugh!!!
I saw Veronica's phone shepra. OMG, I can't believe I was able to use it. I didn't have to download anything. Anyway, lovin' it. Thanks V!
