Macy's To Add Kiosks: For Your Gadget Shopping Pleasure!

August 11, 2006

Remember the earlier blog about DVD kiosks?

(I hope so; it was only 24 hours or so ago ...)

Well, now Macy's is getting on the gadget kiosk bandwagon to make its "retail experience" even more interesting.

Macy's is planning to install self-serve robotic vending machines that will offer iPods and most likely other popular gadgets.  The roll-out will be at 180 Macy's stores this fall (which is sadly not that far away).

You know, this is a good idea, but I still like touching and holding the gadget before I buy it -- wonder if the kiosks will have some sort of rubber gloves you can wear like in those scary laboratory sci-fi movies?

  1. Emma :

A very expensive vending machine eh? I don't think I'd like that at all. I don't want to put such a large amount of money in and feel like I'm getting a little robot snack!

  1. rugs :

I don't really think this is such a good idea - it makes me feel as if I'm buying candy, not an iPod or handy (expensive) gadget. Plus, I do agree with you, I like touching it and feeling it before I buy it. Maybe we're just old-school or something. Not happy with change, or something like that. But still, I'm buying an iPod, not a pack of potato crisps. Next, they'll start placing these vending machines at fill-up stations as well (seeing as they sell pretty much everything) and then the tech industry will become nothing more than bubble-gum consumerism (well... that's what it will feel like... not like a lot of it is that far off anyway.)

  1. wedding anniversary gifts :

Buying iPods from vending machines? 'm not sure if I'll be comfortable with such scheme. I can't vouch for the quality of products coming from vending machines.

  1. Cav :

That does sound cool. I know in the UK, theres more and more of these things popping up all the time. I wonder how long it will be before we get something that would vend an ipod

  1. oil art paintings :

Here in our place, vending machines are used to sell products for urgent needs even if the quality isn't that high. Do you think people will buy gadgets from this kind of machines? Why would Macys invest in this machine when anywhere it's getting negative response?
