Red Sox or Yankees Evil Empire

October 13, 2004

Last night I watched the Yankees vs. Red Sox ALCS playoff game, including the pre-game on FOX. I enjoyed the Nomar, Goat Curse, and Bartman parody - it was pretty funny. But what really irked me about the pre-game was the intro just before the game started where they equated the Yankees as the "Evil Empire".

Bubba the Lobster (RIP)

March 3, 2005

The 22-pound lobster died yesterday at the Pittsburgh Zoo, about a day after he was moved there from a fish market. He was being checked out to see if he was healthy enough to travel to a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Marine biologists estimate Bubba was 30 to 50 years old. They're doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. I say forget about cutting him open! At least not until you boil him and dip his flesh into some hot savory butter! Mmmmm... Delicious!

It's a Small World After All

It's a Small World After All Attraction

I couldn't resist the Disney title to this blog entry, especially since I am going back to Disney World in May. (Although I may skip the "It's a Small World After All" attraction this time even though the ride has been renovated it probably still smells like 20 year old mildew and I have no interest in the theme song getting stuck in my head for the rest of my vacation..)

Anyway, the reason for this blog is to give thanks to James Seng who wrote the very popular Captcha plug-in for MovableType blogs which stops comment spam in blogs. Ironically, James also writes about VoIP and participated in the VoIP Blogger panel that I was also participated in. I was using his popular Captcha before I even knew he had an interest in VoIP and before I knew he blogged about VoIP. Considering the vastness of the internet, the millions of programmers, and the dozens of MovableType plugin programmers...

How do you fix duct-tape?

March 31, 2005

A friend of mine, Evan, forwarded me a story link titled "1 Killed in Blast at S.C. Duct-Tape Plant" that by itself isn't all that interesting. However, Evan pondered an interesting point about this explosion in a duct-tape plant. That is, he pondered, "Hmmm. Mystery of the ages: if duct tape fixes everything, how do they fix duct tape?

Yankees Red Sox Rivalry

April 4, 2005

In October of last year, I wrote Red Sox or Yankees Evil Empire? where I pondered who indeed was the "true" Evil Empire - the Yankees or the Red Sox. I was surprised at the plethora of comments posted to this blog entry. In my last comment to this blog entry posted December 21, 2004, I said, "Enjoy your 2004 championship <Red Sox>. And if the Red Sox average continues, you only have to wait until 2090 for the next World Series championship."

Last night the rivalry was renewed at Yankee Stadium, which the announcers deemed "Game 8 of the LCS" , and which resulted in the Yankees crushing the Red Sox 9-2. During the game, I enjoyed one of the fan's signs that read "1918-2004-2090" which reiterated my December 21st comment that if the Red Sox hold true to form, their next championship will be in 2090 (86 years).

Apparently, some of my pro-Yankees comments weren't taken too kindly by at least one Red Sox fan as I see one "death threat" in the comments section of my blog posted last night threatening, "If i find out who you are and i see you on the street i will kill you." I guess he/she was sore loser last night and decided to Google "yankees evil empire" and low and behold came to my blog entry where his/her beloved Red Sox are deemed the Evil Empire by me.

C'mon, death threats?

A Real Yankee Hero

April 15, 2005

The Yankees' Alex Rodriguez was cheered in Boston by Boston on-lookers as he saved the life of a young boy who was about to be run over. With all the bad press about steroids in baseball and players being prima-donnas, it was refreshing to read this story about a Yankee player being a true role model and a true hero.

Whatever you do in baseball, whatever accomplishments you have in your career, including any Yankee championships will never be greater than what you did two days ago in saving the boy's life. And this is coming from a die-hard Yankees fan. Well done Alex.

Universal Studios Orlando

April 18, 2005

Damn Universal Studios Orlando website is slooooow! I just had to gripe about it. I was trying to research a new ride that recently came out and there site is so filled with large graphics and Shockwave garbage that it takes forever to load. This isn't the first time I've attempted to reach the Universal Studios website and experienced slowness.

Shhhh, don't tell the rabid "Disney-ites" that I'm headed to Disney World in May and also plan on spending a day at Universal Studios.

Google for "Blog"

April 19, 2005

I was curious the top "general" blogs in the blogosphere, so I did what any person would do - I Googled it.

Why is it that John Kerry's website is ranked so highly on Google for "blog"? - a general search term? I refuse to give John Kerry any more Google PR, so I won't include the link to his site, but I'm sure you can figure it out. He is the 11th link and the 8th overall domain listed for the "blog" keyword.

Not Citing Sources!

April 20, 2005

Geez, I just blogged this morning about the "hoopla" behind the Vonage deal with Alarm.com and I pointed out that I had a "scoop" involving a company that added VoIP support to alarm systems BEFORE Alarm.com. I stated that NextAlarm was first to do this and I stated as such in my blog entry both this morning and in a blog entry I wrote about a few months ago.

Well, wouldn't you know it, but not even 4 hours later I get a popup on my RSS reader with the title No Need for Alarm Over Home Security and VoIP. Curious to see what was about since I just wrote about VoIP & alarm systems I clicked on the link. Lo and behold this article STEALS my "scoop" and pretty much my entire analysis without citing me as a source.

That is a big no-no in the blogosphere or any journalism outlet for that matter.

In fact, the entire premise of this "other" article is identical to my blog.
