I was excited to receive the photos we ordered. To my horror when I opened the mailbox one day, I saw this:
Isn't it lovely how the United States Post Office handled our family's memories of our trip? The mailman just shoved the package into our standard-sized mailbox even though it clearly had text that read "Photos Inside. Please Do Not Bend". (photo taken via iPhone above is a bit blurry, but trust me, the warning was there)
Look at this photo and how bent the package was:
I had to pry the package out of my mailbox it was jammed in so tight. When I opened it, I wasn't optimistic our $100+ order of photos were going to be salvageable. Fortunately, the photos were only slightly bent due to the stiff cardboard they inserted. Still, some photos were bent more than I would have liked, but I was able to gently bend them back.
On the one hand, I blame the mailman for being to lazy to drop the package by our door. But I also understand they have a route they have to complete quickly. Perhaps Disney should only offer FEDEX or UPS shipping, since they are not allowed to deliver packages in mailboxes due to Federal law. Both UPS and FEDEX have to drop packages at your door or garage. This would obviously add to the shipping costs, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
On the other hand, why shouldn't the post office handle packages with warning labels more carefully? After all, 20 years ago or so, there was no FEDEX and you had to use the post office. Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I could have sworn that back then the mailman would stop at your door for a package that had warnings not to bend.
I guess the post office got lucky this time that they didn't ruin my family Disney World photos. I didn't want to have to go postal on the post office.
