I was going through a Microsoft drive-thru when I saw the dreaded Blue Screen of Death on the McDonalds computer screen. Not good. Check out the video:

Part of the message reads:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO

BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO or BAD_FOR_YOUR_DIGESTIVE_SYSTEM?

Yeah, well, it may be bad for me, but I want my quarter pounder with fries and I want them now. This is fast food damn it, and I can't wait 10 minutes for the computer to reboot. Can I sue for claiming to be "fast food" when they're making me wait? Hey, if some lady can get $640,000 for spilling coffee which is 'expected' to be hot, then surely I can sue for not receiving my fast food in a time fashion - which is 'not expected'.

My state's (Connecticut) Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal is going to hear about this! Oh wait, a minute, he's got problems of his own.

Damn it! This is enough to make me want to go to Burger King -- if their fries didn't suck so bad.

Heh, nice points about cranky software and fast food. BTW, that $640,000 was intended to send McDonald's a message--scores of other folks had been burned by their coffee before and had filed lawsuits (which were settled out of court by McDonald's).

The problem I have with the McDonalds hot coffee lawsuits is the lawyer and plaintiff arguing that the warning label on the coffee indicating it is hot was too small. Most people believe she sued based on NO label, but actually it was labeled, so the complaint was the warning was too small.

Forget the size of the font. If you don't know coffee can burn you, then you should be in a metal institution since obviously the world is too dangerous for you to use logical thinking.

Further, as I recall, it wasn't the McDonalds employee who spilled the coffee, but rather the customer/plaintiff did it to herself. Ok, so this woman is complaining she didn't know coffee was hot AND she spilled it AND she's blaming McDonalds?

She shouldn't have gotten a penny. The jury probably felt sorry for the 79yr old woman who did indeed suffer injuries. Stella Leibeck sustained third degree injuries over 6% of her body and lesser burns over another 16% of her body.

but again, she spilled it on herself. What's next. I shoot myself in the left and sue the gun manufacturers for not having a warning label? or a camera that sense I'm about to shoot myself in the leg and disables the trigger?

America is the most litigious society in the world. Everyone is looking for a free buck.
