This is just freaky considering it was created over 100 years ago - and not in some Hollywood special effects studio. It would be pretty cool if it were real, but alas dragons are no more real than the Lochness Monster, goblins, or witches with super powers.

A pickled "dragon" that looks as if it might once have flown around Harry Potter's Hogwarts has been found in a garage in Oxfordshire, England.

The baby dragon, in a sealed jar, was discovered with a metal tin containing paperwork in old-fashioned German of the 1890s.

Allistair Mitchell, who was asked to investigate the dragon by a friend, David Hart, who discovered it in his garage, speculates that German scientists may have attempted to use the dragon to hoax their English counterparts at the end of the 19th century, when rivalry between the countries was intense.

"At the time, scientists were the equivalent of today's pop stars. It would have been a great propaganda coup for the Germans if it had come off," Mr Mitchell said. <more...>

I totally agree with kristena(its adorable!). when I looked at this I was dumbfounded. I saw this on the history channel & I really want to know if it's real, although I definately have my doubts.

I thought that it was real at first glance! You should open the jar and do tests to see if it has been past down and was oce real. But the one thing I disagree about with you is about witches and special powers I have pshycic powers and can use witch craft and crystal balls.

Ok....for anyone who thinks this may be a real dragon..or that they should open it up and examine it...look closer....if dragons hatch from eggs...do ya really think it would have an umbilical cord?

That dragon isn't real but I think dragons still exist. Everywhere has been explored exept for the amazon and it's quickly being discovered. The only place now that dragons could truly exist in is under the sea. The only place that hasn't been discovered yet.

Hi, I do believe that dragon exists but still debating. Well, in Silver Fall in Oregon, my aunt took a picture of the fall in 9/2/2007 and there was something came out from the water. The figure looks like a dragon head and it's neck and spikes on it's back. This is more like Chinese dragon but skin is more like a tree branch. My aunt said that when she took that picture from the bottom of the Silver fall, there was nothing there until she see it on the picture. I still searching for more pix that taken from her place or point so i can compare what might it be.

okay i really believe that is a dragon becuse their to much detail in it u could see some vains in the wings and the skin is fallin off a lil and the belly button..... well just look at it now some one try to tell me its fake ....(not to be mean)

Yes, because artists can't paint humans with life-like qualities and sculptors can't create human forms with wrinkles and bulging veins.

C'mon! Give your fellow human beings some credit. Just because YOU can't do it, doesn't mean some creative artist can't.

Nice to believe dragons exist though. Just like I enjoyed believing Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny existed when I was younger. Anyone after the age of 16 who believes in dragon simply need to get a few more years of experience.

p.s. Show me the fossil record. Where are the dragon bones?

Hey I wish it were true that dragons still roamed the earth (if the even did live on earth) well until then I just have to sa that the Pickled Dragon just blows my mind it is so cool well I got to go well C ya

This may or may not be real, but once, they were real, for those who don't believe it's because they are not really interested on the subject. there's been an study on the people they found frozen in some part of europe on a montain along with two dragon bodies, the people showed to have been burned and the dragons been stabbed with a sword (is that the word for a long knife?)anyways, just wait a little longer and you may find the article anywhere. If you have never seen one, does not mean they don't exists. (did not existed) All you have to do, is search... By the way, this one look nice, yeah. good thing is dead. Just to think that the last ones were last seen in the 14th century!!!! May it be that we are about to rediscover them? or what about the chupacabras? what is it? keep it as your homework if you are really interested in DRAGONS. THANKS.

Mountain Dragon

The mountain dragon is so called because in medieval times, it was restricted largely to mountains and other remote habitats. The name is, however, slightly inappropriate since the species was much more widespread in lowland forests and was not restricted to mountains before the pressures of agriculture and a burgeoning human population restricted its habitat.

Like all post-Cretaceous dragons, mountain dragons had six limbs: a pair of wings in addition to two pairs of legs, the result of an advantageous developmental mutation that occurred after the extinction of the two-legged, two-winged prehistoric dragon.

The mountain dragon's body was relatively short compared with that of the marine dragon; however, a shorter body is essential for flight, where a long flexible vertebral column is a disadvantage. The tail was approximately as long as the body, with a razor-sharp arrowhead-shaped structure that could be used as a defensive weapon. A sideswipe from a dragon's tail could sever a man's arm.

I Love dragons and I totally believe in those magnigficent creatures! Believe what you like, but there are many pieces of evidence to say trhat they are real. Look it up and be amazed!
