Eliica Electric Car

With oil and gas prices through the roof, the interest in electric cars has certainly increased. However, the knocks against electric vehicles is that they are not fast, have terrible range, and take a long time to recharge. Well, the Eliica, short for Electric Lithium-Ion battery Car boasts a 0-100kmh time of just four seconds and a 0-160kmh time of seven seconds, which means the Eliica accelerates faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo. While they haven't solved the recharging time or the range, since I'm a bit of a speed freak, this car certainly piqued my interest with its excellent performance numbers.

Hello,

I have stared a discussion board aimed at putting pressure on the media, govt, and car industry to make affordable electric cars available in the UK. If you would like to join in the debate, please see;

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/electriccarsUK/

Here is a synopsis;

"Electric vehicles are a more environmentally friendly form of transport than petrol or diesel vehicles, especially if they are recharged from a sustainable electricity source.

This group is dedicated to finding out what we can do to make more affordable electric vehicles available to buy in the UK. This group's emphasis is on trying to persuade car manufacturers and the government to do more to make electric vehicles available in the UK.

If you're not sure about joining this discussion group why not pay Moira Govan's site - http://www.evuk.co.uk a visit first. This is a taste of the kinds of issues we discuss here.

To stop spam, new members need to be "approved", and new members' messages need to be "approved" before they are posted on the board - I'll try to keep your wait as short as possible. You will have the option to hide your e-mail address if you do not wish others to see it.

To get a feel for what the group is about if you join, please go to the files section and download the welcome message.

Although the group is called Electric Cars UK we welcome discussions about any type of electric vehicle (busses, scooters etc.)

Those who wish to discuss the technicalities of building your own electric car please see the diy_ev_cars group (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/diy_ev_cars/), although you are of course welcome to share the non-technical facts about your car here too!"

Electric cars can only gain popularity if they can provide people practical means and reasonable pricing. Here is one I found that is pretty cool.

Watched a very interesting review on the G Wiz electric car last night. Tim Lovejoy from Channel 5’s Fifth Gear took to the streets of London to see if the £7,000 G Wiz was a practical enough vehicle. He found it wasn’t much use for taking the kids to school as it was a little on the small side for the children in the back but was adequate enough to get him self and his golf clubs in, so not too bad I suppose.

It is reckoned that the £7,000 price tag for the car will pay for its self within 1 year due to the car being exempt from the congestion charge, road tax, and can be parked for free in central London. The top speed of the car is just 40 mph and can travel for 40 miles on a single charge. In my eyes this is perfected for anyone living in the central of London.

How much environmental impact on making and disposing of these cars. Especially when considering the batterys?
