A friend of mine told me he recently installed Firefox 1.5 beta 1. He told me about a problem he was having with one of his favorite Firefox extensions / plugins, namely Paste and Go, which wouldn't work with the new Firefox 1.5 beta 1. It was such an important extension that he actually uninstalled Firefox 1.5 beta 1 and went back to an older version. Thus, many of our "must have" extensions don't yet work on Firefox 1.5 beta 1.

I found a trick to make Firefox 1.0 extensions work in Firefox 1.5. (credit to The Extensions Mirror, LiewCF.com, and Evan Koblentz for this tip)

In the Firefox URL type: about:config This will show you a list of Firefox preferences.

Right click on the list, select New > String

At preference name enter "app.extensions.version" (no quotes).

Then, enter "1.0" (without quotes) as the value for app.extensions.version

Restart Firefox and enable the disabled Firefox extensions.

Restart Firefox again to activate the extensions.

I should point out that some of the extensions will not work in Firefox 1.5 and will cause errors when you enable them. Simply disable the malfunctioning Firefox plugins.

Actually my friend Evan Koblentz told me about the trick. We were talking about it the other day since he was having problems with a particular plugin.

I did also find it on your site after the fact and that reminded me I should blog about it. (great design by the way)

Saw the trick on a few other sites as well, but yours was the cleanest explanation so I did copy/paste portions of your entry. : )

I meant to give you credit actually. I marked as draft and then went back to it later. When I changed from WYSIWYG mode and then viewed the source I saw your domain in the code so thought I did link to you.

But then I realized the link was to your Firefox beta 1 entry and not the plugin entry so I deleted it. That link must have gotten there from when I copy/pasted into via WYWIWG mode. I meant to put a link to the correct entry but just got extremely busy.

i will fix it now.
