Rich backs his VoIP tradeshow with his wallet

August 31, 2005

Rich Tehrani, publisher of Internet Telephony Magazine and carny-extraordinaire for Internet Telephony Conference & Expo, backs up his pledge of having the best VoIP show in the world with his wallet. Starting with last year's Miami Internet Telephony Conference & Expo, Rich has offered a 100% money-back guarantee for conferees. So far no one has taken Rich up on his offer, so no doubt TMC's conferees have been very satisfied with the level of VoIP education at TMC's events.

It's too bad Rich doesn't yet offer the same money-back guarantee to exhibitors, since every single Internet Telephony show I have attended has been from "well attended" to a down-right mob scene! But alas, you always get in any type of event at least one or more exhibitors who aret happy with the amount of leads.

VoIP Tradeshow

August 15, 2005

The next VoIP tradeshow is the Internet Telephony tradeshow at the L.A. Convention Center. The tradeshow runs from October 24-27th and highlights some "big hitters" including Carly Fiorina, Michael Powell, and more. If the immensely successful & recent VoIP Developer tradeshow is any indication of the success that the Internet Telephony tradeshow will experience, then hang onto your seats - this tradeshow is going to be a doozie!

Actually, if you plan on attenting this tradeshow you should book your hotel soon.

Internet Telephony Keynotes

June 29, 2005

Internet Telephony Conference & Expo is shaping up to be a fantastic event with some great speakers and keynoters. Michael Powell, former FCC Chairman and Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO are just two of the headliners.

What you may not know about Carly Fiorina is that prior to joining HP, Fiorina spent nearly 20 years at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where she held a number of senior leadership positions and directed Lucent's initial public offering and subsequent spin-off from AT&T. Ms. Fiorina has previously served on the boards of Cisco Systems, Kellogg Company and Merck & Company.

We already know Michael Powell's strong support for VoIP when he was Chairman. He helped keep regulation off the nascent VoIP industry's back.

Other important speakers will be at Internet Telephony including Yahoo!, Cisco, Nortel, Skype, Juniper Networks, Toshiba, NEC, Lucent, Siemens, Inter-Tel, Deloitte & Touche, Aculab, Volo and, potentially, Alcatel and 3Com.

I can't wait to hear Michael Powell's take on VoIP and if he thinks the new chairman will continue his "hands off" policy.

Mark Spencer Founder of Asterisk to Keynote

February 15, 2005

It's rare that I share a TMC press release. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I ever have. Well, this press release is certainly worthy of a blog entry. Digium's Mark Spencer is going to keynote at Internet Telephony Conference & Expo. Probably best known as the founder of the popular open-source Asterisk IP-PBX platform, Mark will no doubt share some interesting insights on "open source telephony".

VoIP Event in Miami

The next big VoIP event is Internet Telephony Conference & Expo down in sunny Miami and I can't wait to go! Right now I'm stuck up here in chilly Connecticut where the past few days have been in the 20's. So in addition to me envisioning the latest VoIP products, services and of course VoIP gadgets at the Miami show, I'm also dreaming about South Beach. And no, not for the scantily-clad women in bikinis!

VoIP Security

VoIP Security Lockdown

VoIP security is often overlooked.Too often us VoIP bloggers get caught up writing about the latest cool feature added to Vonage/Packet8/CallVantage, etc., or the latest VoIP gadget or toy.Unfortunately, VoIP security just isn't a sexy topic.

But as VoIP deployments continue their meteoric rise both in residential and business, VoIP security is going to become much more critical.

Here's a good primer on VoIP security that came out in the latest issue of Internet Telephony Magazine that you should go check out:
Internet Telephony Feature Article: How Secure Is VoIP?

p.s. If you don't subscribe to Internet Telephony Magazine, you should. It's free (in print form) in the U.S.And if you are international, TMC recently launched a digital PDF version that you can download. It contains all the same graphics, charts, architecture diagrams as the print magazine. It even includes the advertisements if you are so inclined to check those out.Actually the ads are pretty important. I learn about a lot of new VoIP companies that often launch their product within Internet Telephony Magazine, since it is the first VoIP magazine (launched in 1996).Seeing ads is also a gauge of the company's financial strength and well-being before you 'plop' down cash on a company that may not be around in a year or two.

VOIP Security Tips
- Encrypt VOIP traffic and run it over a VPN.
- Make sure that server-based IP-PBXs are locked down and protected against viruses and denial-of-service attacks.

Nimcat Networks Roars to Light

October 7, 2004

I sat down at a conference breakfast at Internet Telephony Expo at a table with two other gentlemen. The gentleman to my right saw my TMC badge and asked if I was with TMC. I explained that I was in charge of TMC Labs and that I did VoIP articles, VoIP and call center/CRM product reviews, as well as a VoIP blogger here.

When he gave me his business card which said "Mahshad Koohgoli - CEO - Nimcat Networks", I said to him, "You guys have a peer-to-peer phone solution similar to Popular Telephony's Peerio, don't you?"

Mahshad was a little taken aback and said, "I'm impressed.
