KYOCERA WIRELESS AND BOINGO WIRELESS JOIN BRIDGEPORT NETWORKS' MOBILEIGNITE ALLIANCE

Collaboration Drives Interoperable MobileVoIP Convergence Solutions
For Wireless Carriers and MVNOs

CHICAGO and NEW ORLEANS, March 14, 2005 - BridgePort Networks, the leader in MobileVoIP convergence, today announced that Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Boingo Wireless, Inc., have joined its MobileIGNITE Alliance. MobileIGNITE (Mobile Integrated Go-to-Market Network IP Telephony Experience) an alliance of leading technology companies committed to standards-based, interoperability of MobileVoIP convergence solutions for wireless network operators.

With a commitment to interoperability, alliance members will work together to ensure that dual-mode handsets support seamless roaming and in-call handoff of voice calls between mobile and Wi-Fi networks. By enabling network interoperability with a single, mobile phone number and BridgePort Networks' NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway software, the companies expect to deliver a simplified and vastly improved MobileVoIP user experience.

Availability of dual-mode devices is considered key to introducing the cost economics of VoIP to mobile operators. By extending GSM, CDMA or 3G mobile services using VoIP technology, mobile operators can offer services in broadband-serviced locations at high service quality but at lower costs that over a cellular access network. As a result, MobileVoIP creates new opportunities for mobile service providers to generate new revenue by replacing fixed-line service in buildings, improving customer retention.

Kyocera Wireless, a leading global supplier of feature-rich, easy-to-use CDMA handsets, will work with BridgePort and other members of MobileIGNITE to develop future handsets offering dual-mode mobile/VoIP functionality. The first wave of MobileVoIP convergence is expected later this year as new handsets emerge to enable seamless voice roaming between 3G wireless and IP-based Wi-Fi networks.

"Increasing demand by consumers and businesses for converged services like MobileVOIP presents a huge opportunity for service providers to add revenue and drive usage," said Jim Kelly, executive vice president and COO for Kyocera Wireless Corp. "Kyocera has been a driver of innovation and differentiation in the CDMA mobile handset industry and through participation in the MobileIGNITE alliance, we're well-positioned to emerge as a leader in the CDMA/Wi-Fi dual-mode handset segment."

Boingo Wireless is partnering with BridgePort Networks to ensure interoperability between the Boingo Roaming System with the BridgePort Networks' NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway software. Boingo Wireless' network includes more than 16,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in nearly 3,00 cities in 38 countries.

Boingo's VoIP device strategy involves delivering true commercial hot spot roaming for all Wi-Fi enabled devices. The company is developing software solutions that allow, mobile phones to login and authenticate onto any of the thousands of hot spots in the Boingo Roaming System. The device software provides essential Wi-Fi services including signal sniffing, authentication, network selection, and profile management - and can be private labeled for major service providers.

"Enabling roaming between hot spots is essential to the success of MobileVoIP on next-generation dual-mode phones, and Boingo is working with infrastructure and handset manufacturers to make it happen", said David Hagan, president and CEO of Boingo Wireless. "BridgePort Networks has helped bring the MobileVoIP ecosystem together to accelerate work on interoperability, and Boingo Wireless is excited to be able to bring our expertise, software and network of hotspot partners to the effort."

BridgePort Networks is the first vendor to offer a platform for MobileVoIP convergence that bridges cellular roaming technology compatible with today's mobile networks and VoIP based on the open SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) standards. The company's open standards based NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway (NCG) bridges signaling, call control and authentication between the SIP based VoIP world and the SS7 based core mobile network, cost effectively delivering mobile services over VoIP networks and VoIP calls to mobile phones.

"Real world interoperability problems can be addressed rapidly through the MobileIGNITE alliance program", said Mike Mulica, president and CEO, BridgePort Networks. "Kyocera's commitment to innovating future dual-mode handsets and Boingo's experience in the public access Wi-Fi market, make the two ideal alliance partners and we look forward to their continued participation in MobileIGNITE."
