New FCC commissioners appointed

November 10, 2005

Late yesterday, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Kevin J. Martin applauded President Bush’s announcement of intention to nominate Deborah T. Tate and Michael J. Copps to be Commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission. President Bush nominated a Republican and a Democrat to serve on the Federal Communications Commission, which will preserve the two parties' balance of power on the FCC. Wow, Bush picking a Democrat? Who says Bush only picks cronies and right wingers?wink

Of the announcements, Chairman Martin said, "If confirmed, Debi Tate will be an excellent addition to the Commission. She has a distinguished career in state government, and she has worked closely with the Commission in her role as Director of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority. Also, if confirmed, I look forward to continuing to work closely with Commissioner Copps. He has served admirably at the Commission for the past four years, and I respect his insight and thoughtfulness on issues before the Commission. I welcome both Debi and Michael, and I appreciate their continued dedication to public service."

It remains to be seen how the new FCC members will rule in terms of broadband competition and VoIP regulation, but TMCnet's reporters will certainly keep an eye on the new FCC members.

  1. Daniel Bell :

I would like to express my view on the media
ownership. I do not believe that one company should own 8 radio stations in one city and I am opposed to having a company own a TV station in addition to 8 radio stations. In Cincinnati there is no competition on the AM dial. Clear Channel owns all four of the most powerfull stations. Therefore there is no competition in AM radio. They do not cover Northern Kentucky sports ie NKU or do they carry any news unless it bad about Northern Kentucky. I urge you to vote against one company owning all the most powerful stations. Give the area some diversity.
