The GNUP registry is now live, so you can go register for a number. Since I was one of the first to register, I figured i'd get a really cool number or one east to remember, like "(8844) 1000000002", alas it was not to be... I got (8844) 4294967281. Ah well... I guess I can't have everything now can I?

Hi Tom, I am not completely clear on this. If I call your gnup number from a PSTN phone, what will I pay for the call? Does it depend on my service provider?

It works on services like skype as well? Wow, that is impressive and a further threat to the skype model i gather. Should inbound calling from the PSTN be a premium/paid for service?

Tom,

Nobody is very clear on what Popular Telephony is doing other than trying to create some HYPE. If anybody figures it out, please let us know.

I am getting tired with their many meaningless anoucements. They are partnering with Tom, Dick and Harry.

But, what frustrates me even more is that they say they have a working product but it still does not work.

I downloaded their PT inspector from their GNUP site and it does not even install on my PC . It is missing a dll. I had to go find the missing DLL and add it to my library - and even then, the only thing that appeared on my screen is a poor message saying that the product is not ready. Talk about a quality product...

It seems to me that Popular Telephony is a classic case of HYPE with NO substance. Their stuff does not work. Even at VON this fall, they had phones on display and they did not work.
