Much ado about Google's free local wi-fi network yesterday and even greater flap -- if possible -- about the company's lack of a national plan.
(Lots of print coverage and blog coverage all over the place.)
Why don't they do it? Would be a good way to spend down the corporate coffers ...
... And can't imagine they don't have an idea of how to make money with this type of model?

Hey Tom, maybe Google directly engaged the Mountain View project as a demonstration and testbed. They could control the configuration and technology to make sure it worked.
Could they plan to just partner with existing wifi network players from here on out rather than build it themselves? How would they put their foot in the door... I'm sure they have it figured out.
