The Labor Department has issued numbers detailing the job losses in September following Hurricane Katrina.
The nation suffered a loss of jobs last month for the first time in more than two years. Unemployment jumped to 5.1 percent with a 35,000 drop in payrolls in September. The rate reached a four-year low of 4.9 percent in August. The September job numbers represented the greatest drop since 54,000 jobs were lost in April 2003.
So where's the good news in all of this? The impact on payrolls was not as bad as had been predicted by some as economists had mentioned a job loss of at least 150,000.
