A New Administration and Cioppino

I have spent over twenty years in telecom and a similar amount cooking food from various cuisines around the world. They make up the central foci of my life. So I decided if I was going to do a blog, I would combine the two things I love; communications and cuisine. Okay, check this space out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Mondays, I will comment on what I've been following over the weekend and one special dish I made. I promise you one thing. All recipes will be original and all will be something I prepared that weekend. Sunday was my granddaughter Camille's eighth birthday and I know that she can't help but eat shrimp. She likes it best grilled or sautéed. However, I thought that for us adults I would make a Cioppino. You can check out the recipe at http://blog.tmcnet.com/sip-and-serve-by-a-foodie/cioppino.html. Three things I like to do that make it very different are: use live crab when you can, (the pre-cooked stuff at grocery stores is mediocre at best), cook your shrimp very briefly to avoid making it tough and finally, add a can of crabmeat to the sauce to give additional goodness to every spoonful.

Alright, what was big about this week? Oh, I know. We got a new President. Barack Obama is the President-Elect of the United States. His victory is incredible, historic, amazing for a freshman senator and representing a major shift from the administration of President George Bush. Yet, what are we to think of it in telecom? We are not at the top of the list of priorities for this new administration. First, they will need a team to address the economy, then perhaps Iraq and then perhaps a surprise. We will be somewhere on page two. Is that the right place for us? No. Telecommunications represents millions of jobs, the nation's security and the potential for major technological advances. IP Communications is at the forefront of where we are going as an industry and a country. Let's hope we make it to the bottom of page one. There are some significant decisions we need to be made by our government concerning our industry.

See you on Wednesday...
