The Building has no Walls...Enter EMS

Today’s business environment often reminds me of the Hans Christian Andersen fable about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes. However, the clothes are invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent. The story of the “Emperor’s New Clothes” notes that people can be duped into acquiring new things at great cost that deliver no value. Given the many technology choices available, it is difficult for a business to select and implement solution strategies that always lead to success. However, one strategy every business should embrace and understand is how to execute business or enterprise mobility.

Enterprise mobility consists of enabling mobile workers, remote workers, distributed sales, diversified support through cloud enablement. A business should not define itself by “walls” that enclose its resources (personnel, equipment and systems). Given the power of cloud solutions, networking and mobile devices, businesses can attain and leverage resources without concerns of walls or borders. Consequently, businesses can be more competitive, diverse and provide customers with more rewarding solutions than ever.

The requirements for mobility have changed a lot. Device governance is necessitated by BYOD. Data and confidential business information is extremely portable given the penetration of laptops and tablets and should be protected. Network and data security are of paramount concern given the variety of access methodologies and network service providers and any concerns should be addressed. The mobile business must be prepared to meet certain certifications and industry standards both to achieve security and predictable performance but to also sell into specialized verticals (the financial, healthcare, legal and government).

Previously, I monetized the value of mobility and collaboration across multiple locations for small businesses.

Mobility is important for the business in talent acquisition, talent retention, business continuity, and customer service. It is also important for the employee to improve productivity, exercise collaboration and for improved morale by becoming more engaged in the business.

Mobility is no longer an option. It is a requirement to be competitive and to deliver customer satisfying solutions and services.

Microsoft has established a new plateau for mobility with its Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) available for any size business. EMS integrates features from Office 365, Intune, Mobility Device Management (MDM) and Azure.

Building a business without walls has never been more secure, easier or better for you.
