I responded to an article in No Jitter on the importance of audio in telepresence.
I taught the classes for BCR in the early 1980s on teleconferencing now known under the guise of telepresence. Audio is the most important issue but its not the speakerphone is the ROOM! People don't realize how much noise HVAC, trunks, people walking by, paper shuffling, coughing and a myriad of other "noise makers" cause on a call.
However on a lighter note and humorous one, my dear friend who travels the world Hal Josephson said 30 years ago about video conferencing, "if your boring face-to-face, you will still be boring via video." This also reminds us of why telepresence is still pretty boring.
Is It Audio or Video that makes Telepresence work?
