If indeed, the iPhone and all other cell/wireless devices become indeed open, then indeed, the platform will rule, not the device. The iTunes Platform is indeed a platform for unlimited applications to run on any device. My girlfriend's iPhone runs on T-Mobile, so why not have the iPhone run on any network. It may sound like a backdoor run by Verizon to get the iPhone but indeed it gives Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Cricket and any future WiFi, WiMax, Zigbee and other wireless and even wired network technology access to the iTunes platform to run all the present and future applications. A device-independent world gives rise to the application not the device. It also gets the wireless carriers out of the device business to focus on continuously improvement to their networks where there is indeed, an infinite demand for bandwidth.
