OCS-Office Communications Server Exposed - New Ideas "Inside"
October 22, 2007
Starting today I will look "inside" Microsoft's OCS-Office Communications Server. Certainly its one of the most fascinating approaches to VoIP/SIP and one worth considering by anyone looking into UC-unified communications or simply wanting a better way to communicate. I will explain some of the new terms and concepts in OCS starting with GRUU. The Mediation Server uses GRUU-Globally Routable UA-user agent URI-Uniform Resource Indicator to identify the gateways that are associated with the Mediation Server. Some SIP applications require a UA-User Agent to construct and distribute a URI which can be used by router on the Internet to route a call to that specific UA instance. In other words, a URI which routes to a specific UA instance is called a GRUU.
If you want to know more about OCS, this and more than 100 other concepts are explained in a new course called SIP Essentials – OCS Special Edition available online or in a classroom. There is also a separate version for channel partners wanting to explore offering OCS to their customers. For more go to: http://www.techtionary.com/nacse/istudies-ocs.htm
