Podcast – MG-Media Gateways – Know More Sell More Series
Free Flash/Quicktime/iPod-iPhone Tutorials for Channel Partners Websites
Channel Partners can now use multimedia tutorials proven to “reduce the sales cycle” on their website for staff and customer education. That is, channel partners can use these free tutorials on the website, for customer presentations or email newsletters as a means to help customers understand complex technical subjects. As one channel partner said it best, “these tutorials make it easy for the website to be one of our top sales resources. In addition, having the tutorials on-my-iPod is a cool-tool to show-off to customers.”
This free presentation is produced and presented by TECHtionary.com and is available in Adobe Flash (.swf), audio-only (.mp3) and iPod/iPhone (.mv4) formats for download at: http://www.bizcastingonline.com/educate/media/podcasts/mg/
until June 13 when it will be removed unless you are part of the TECHtionary dealer program where there is no expiration.
Here is the audio portion of the podcast.
The following is a presentation on:
- MG-Media Gateways and Next-Generation Networks and
- Customer Applications of Media Gateways
To begin with, here are a few basics - SBC-Session Border Controllers connect SIP-Session Initiation Protocol devices to the PSTN-Public Switched Telephone Network. MG-Media Gateways also connect SIP devices to the PSTN. The difference is SBC's are provider-class systems, whereas MG's are designed for local connection to the PSTN or SIP trunking network.
That is, MG's would be strategically located across the continent or world and interface the PSTN only as necessary. In other words, even a high-volume company might only need a few MG's or SBC's to provide carrier-class performance including a vast array of features.
In fewer words than the Gettysburg Address, here are just some of the applications of Media Gateways:
1 - Connection of IP-PBX to PSTN – many customers are not “ripping and replacing” their systems entirely, they are adding IP-based telephony in new as growth is required. MG’s are an ideal solution for new branch offices.
2 - Connection of IP-PBX to PSTN & SIP trunk provider – As SIP trunking emerges customers may have both TDM and IP systems. MG’s can provide connections to both PSTN and SIP trunking providers.
3 - Survivable connection to SIP trunk provider – MG’s provide a cost-effective means for both redundant and diverse disaster/business recovery solutions.
4 - Connection of PBX & IP-PBX to PSTN & SIP trunk provider – As a migration strategy MG’s provide traditional connections as well as features for call routing such as “hairpin” or “hairpinning” where calls come in from the PSTN and routed back out to the PSTN.
5 - Connection of IP-PBX to Hosted VoIP provider – As nearly all the providers offer premise-based as well as hosted or web-based solutions also known as SAAS-Software As A Service, MG’s fit into nearly all customer configurations.
6 - Connection of IP-PBX & PSTN to Microsoft OCS Server – MG’s connect Microsoft’s telephony system called OCS or Office Communications Server to SIP trunking and PSTN providers for inbound and outbound call processing.
7 - Multiple SIP-OCS proxies - SIP to SIP calls, TDM to TDM calls and SIP to TDM calls – MG’s are versatile enough to provide for nearly all traditional TDM and SIP call processing configurations.
