While I'm not very fond of the work of Max Brooks--it's a great idea, overall, but his execution isn't all that great, and his fascination with the
Shaolin spade drives me up a wall---there's plenty of people who love both his
zombie guide and his novel,
World War Z. Sufficient people, in fact, to get Paramount interested in launching a World War Z game.
The trademark has been registered, but no one's quite sure just what it's going to be about. The immediate guess is that this will either be a real time strategy title or a first person shooter, perhaps both at once. Given the nature of World War Z, there are plenty of possibilities.
There are also plenty of possibilities for a zombie game that isn't just a shooter, and this one may well take advantage of some of them. It would be nice to get a little more diversity going on in the zombie market, and this may be the shot we've been waiting for. Obviously, this one is going to have to be watched to see how it all comes out in the end, but still, there's plenty of room for hope here.
Personally, I'd like to see something like that The Last Stand line of browser games, except fully tricked out with advanced graphics, more of a plot, and then some. Either way, though, the sheer possibility of this one has may attention.
