About Me

Carrie Schmelkin is a Web Editor at TMCnet who is responsible for reporting on various industry spaces such as cloud communications, data center management, environmental monitoring and M2M solutions.

Carrie graduated cum laude from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in magazine journalism and English. She also minored in sociology.

Upon graduating from Newhouse, Carrie started working as a general assignment reporter for the New Canaan Advertiser, a weekly newspaper covering community news in Connecticut. After a year she was promoted to Assistant Editor. During the almost two years she was there, Carrie was responsible for covering education, government, court and human interest stories. In 2011, she won first place for Educational Reporting in the national New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA) competition.

Carrie’s stories have been picked up by the Drudge Report, Capitol Reports, ABC News, CBS News, NBC Nightly News and AOL. Carrie also spent a year doing live radio at AM 1490 WGCH.

Carrie started with TMCnet in January of 2011 and has since gone on to write stories covering everything from Facebook trends to data center power monitoring tips to why companies may want to move to the cloud. Her experience with in-depth educational reporting coupled with her passion for where technology is headed has led her to create this education technology blog.
