Location-Based Accuracy

September 29, 2015

I’ve written about e911 before, most recently in July where the concept revolved around the role of media servers with e911 and NG911 services.

I was recently doing some more research on e911 when I came across this interesting paper on the GSA site about location-based services and the accuracy of them.  You’ll need to register to read the entire paper but if you are into math, non-linear equations, and azimuthal alignment of antenna arrays, it will be worth it.

IMS and VoIP Infrastructure Continue Growth

September 22, 2015

I’ve written from time to time (many times), about how both the IMS, and VoIP infrastructure markets continue to grow.  The IMS market is growing because of LTE.

VoLTE, and VoIP infrastructure markets continue to grow because, even though LTE is growing, everyone has not moved to IMS yet, and want to keep their existing networks going.  In fact, as I’ve written about before, 3G subscribers continue to grow as LTE subscribers also grow.

Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) ≠ Diameter Routing Agent (DRA)

September 15, 2015

Many people in our industry confuse a Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) with a Diameter Routing Agent (DRA). While a DRA was the first and most publicized function of a DSC, and an important one at this, it is not the only function.  With that in mind, Dialogic created a simple “Usages of a Diameter Signaling Controller” Infographic to point out the key uses of a DSC.

NFV Reality

September 8, 2015

My past two blogs have been about NFV Vendor challenges. From the xSP side, I continue to see what I’ll call extreme interest in our NFV plans.  The xSP’s want to deploy NFV for the reasons the industry has been talking about – CAPEX reduction, OPEX reduction, and New Service Delivery – and they want to deploy it as fast as possible. For instance, AT&T has stated that 5% of its network will be virtualized by the end of this year.
