Where are we really with WebRTC?  It’s not generating the buzz it used to. There are not many specialized conferences anymore.  Even the first big buzzy one, WebRTC Conference and Expo, which incidentally is next week, has renamed itself the “Real Time Web Solutions Conference.”  What’s going on?

What Your Life Might Look Like In An IoT World

In an IoT world, you’ll have a connected car. Your connected car has all kinds of sensors to detect when to brake, how your car is performing, etc., and a connected speaker that will communicate with you.  If your car stops suddenly and no brakes were applied, it might mean you got into a crash.  If you have the right app, you might find your car talking to you to see if you are OK.

Last week, I discussed how IoT is changing the telecommunications industry, and the vast amount of data the industry will have to support (158 million years worth of HD video). Be sure to read part 1 if you missed it.

What will happen is that there will be APIs that enable services and applications to be generated from all this analysis of the data. We are seeing API conferences pop up and this is the key reason why.

Device connectivity and the Internet of Things (IoT) is taking the industry by storm.  IDC estimates that over 29 billion devices will be connected to the internet by 2020.  Cisco estimates over 50 billion connected devices.  And these devices will drive new industries and revenue streams to the tune of over $1.7 trillion dollars by 2020.
