What's Going On with WebRTC? - June 2017 Update

The hype is dying down.  The press has moved onto IoT, NFV, and clouds.  WebRTC is yesterday’s news.  You don’t hear much about it anymore.  I haven’t written about it in a while even.  But it’s becoming part of the real-time communication application fabric. In fact, according to Transparency Market Research, WebRTC is part of over $10B in communications applications with a CAGR of almost 25%.

It’s no surprise, really.  As many companies create real time communication (RTC) applications with our software-based media server (PowerMedia XMS), we see what companies are building before the applications hit the street.  We know they are using WebRTC as an integral part of their new applications. Not only for voice, but really for video as well.  Video is an integral part of the new RTC applications.  And the TMR research bears this out: “the demand for video webRTC solutions is higher than other types of solutions.”

So, keep on the lookout.  I’m guessing you’ll be using WebRTC soon whether you know it or not, as it’s an integral part of new applications. In fact, we recently sponsored a white paper from Tsahi Levent Levi, on how Businesses are using WebRTC. Click here to get the white paper.
