STP's Just Keep Going

When I’m meeting with customers, usually I do a brief overview of our product line.  While we have all the cool software and NFV and AWS based network infrastructure, we also have some more traditional products.   And when our customers find out we sell Signaling Transfer Points (STP) and other SS7 products, they sometimes are astounded these nodes are still being sold.

Let’s start with why.   While LTE and 5G are all the marketing rage, 3G networks are still out there and will remain out there for some time.   Many of the original STPs were put out there quite a few number of years ago.  Some of them are even end of support, let alone end of life.  So given the staying power and need for SS7, many operators need to make sure their STP equipment is modernized.  And so they need to replace or upgrade the equipment.

Additionally, even with an operator who plans to reduce traffic on their 3G networks, there might be a desire to reduce the number of signaling links.  And so it becomes a basic economic decision – continue paying hefty maintenance on old equipment, or get a more modern slimmed down STP to handle traffic for the next x number of years.   And many decide to get the best product for their networks today, because it essentially “pays” for itself.

Finally, related to both points above, we are seeing many requests for software / virtualized STPs.  And because we understood both of the points above, we built it.  And they came.  To read more about Dialogic STP solutions, please read more here.
