Picture Perfect

I love to take pictures and I'll admit, I'm obsessed with good marketing/advertising campaigns and Nikon's COOLPIX S60 propaganda with ex-alumni of That 70's Show Ashton Kutcher just makes me want to go out and drop the $349.95 on the nifty toy. (Regardless of the fact that I think he's adorable, and blocking out that he's already married!)

The last camera I bought was the Canon PowerShot A95 and the price tag was around the $400 mark back in 2006. Although, I'm still pretty happy with my Canon, I've dropped it so many times that the shutter sticks and the zoom refuses to cooperate sometimes, so it may be time to get another camera. Plus, the future is touch!

Even though the PowerShot is most definitely better in terms of picture quality and at the time when I was looking for a digital camera, I was more concerned with professional picture quality but right now, for what it's worth, the Nikon looks like a good pick considering I'm not looking for professional quality and just want a small camera to take pictures with.

I got to thinking about purchasing a new digital camera when yesterday I heard on the radio Polaroid is starting to phase out their infamous Polaroid film (the one with the white boarder) because it's becoming obsolete. WT...I'm mad! Yes, I do know what Polaroid film is because it's the first of its kind to connect to my generation, the generation where we want everything now.

Think about it, Polaroid took away that extra step in going to the store and waiting for pictures to develop, Polaroid did it right in front of your eyes, no waiting required! I had my cake and ate it too, all in five minuets.

Andre 3000 sang about the film in his Hey Ya song, "Shake it / Shake it / shake it like a Polaroid Picture!"

What Polaroid wants to replace it with is their PoGo Printer. It can work with either a camera phone of a digital camera:

  • Camera Phone: Wirelessly transfer images from a Bluetooth-enabled camera phone to the Mobile Printer and print instantly. Using the built-in OBEX (object exchange profile) Bluetooth in the phone and the printer, connecting and printing becomes instant.

  • Digital Camera: Connect the USB cable to the PictBridge-enabled camera and printer. Once connected, follow the PictBridge screen on the camera display. Select what image to send to the printer and within 60 seconds, the print is ready to be shared.

Polaroid, stop complicating my life! Just cut it out and denounce that you're going to phase out the timeless product. Looks like during these tough times, I'm going to be spending my savings on Polaroid film...wait, is that what they wanted?
