April 2009 Archives

CommunicAsia 2009's mobile feature is a hit! They have launched the mobile site, empowering attendees easy access to information on the go before and during the show.

Thanks to the services and tools from Blueprint, Yahoo!'s mobile development platform, the CommunicAsia2009 mobile site showcases information in a format that is specifically designed for mobile phones.

Some key areas on the site include daily news updates of the show, event highlights, shuttle bus services, program timings and locations, floor plans and more. What I might have given to have this easily available to me at some of the 26 conferences we participated in last year.
It was simply a matter of friendship but also the strong interest on the part of several thousand members of DIDX that encouraged me to interview Anthony Minessale and Brian West of FreeSWITCH™ yesterday in podcast format. I didn't realize how many would listen in. Some asked for more information especially about the HD conferencing progress.

Just a two letter prefix "HD" to telephony is a hit around the globe. Anthony explains in an article on FreeSWITCH™ site the original definition, history, and technology of HD. He mentions, "... higher quality audio shines is when you have several phones on the same network that support HD-audio."

And... "There is a misconception that because the quality of the audio is higher, then the amount of bandwidth necessary to transport that audio must also increase by the same factor. "

Finally... "Many new SIP phones now support high quality audio using g722 as well as low bandwidth codecs such as g729."

Many comments directly to me on email in regards to the FreeSWITCH™ podcast included actually a question; which phones are compatible to this technology? I'd love to see comments directly on this post from readers to answer this question.

And... meet with global open source developers at http://www.cluecon.com Aug. 4-6, 2009 in Chicago. Facebook has a pre, during, and post networking area at Cluecon on Facebook. Our DIDXchange media channels are a media partner for Cluecon '09.

I am the luckiest person on earth sometimes to be surrounded by so many positive and inspiring persons in the IP communications industry, from open source developers to entrepreneurs to early adopters and we can't leave this group out... those marketing experts. But Jaymie Scotto, Michael Corr, and Ilyssa Miller's successful efforts in the last area moved me to get an interview recorded at didx.net/podcast.

I met Jaymie online when I asked a question about how to use the Deal Center for Comptel 2007. I was expecting a curt, probably rude answer, but instead was told in a few kind words what to do and even a phone call to guide me through. It took a total of 3 minutes. Right away I was able to start planning my before, during and after meetings (virtual and physical) for business.

You can find out more information about Jaymie Scotto & Associates at http://www.jaymiescotto.com/. They know all the cool new and quite effective ways you can move your great ideas into real success in IP communications.

Just got an email from Perry Nalevka that MobileMax has a new masterpiece, the GVdialer for Google Voice. In fact, it is the first mobile application for Google Voice. You can try it for 30 days.

GVdialer is the first mobile application for Google Voice, supporting iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Microsoft, and Symbian.

They support Google Voice's greatest features like:

1) One number - Present your Google number as your Caller ID on outgoing mobile calls.
2) Simple calling - Dial directly from your phone's contacts, call log or keypad
3) Google Voice access - get instant access to goggle Voice mail, Inbox, GOOG-411
4) Customizable - Use GVdialer on all calls, international calls, or decide on each and every call

See how GVdialer works on Youtube and at GVdialer demo.

I first met Perry Nalevka at *ITEXPO East in Ft Lauderdale, FL in 2007 where I interviewed him about MobileMax. His video interview is at Youtube. I'll add more information here once I have tried the application myself. Can't wait!

*See you at ITEXPO West 2009 in Los Angeles, California, an event that our company via our DIDXchange DID/DDI media channel sponsors and will be an exhibitor. Join the networking areas on Linkedin and Facebook. Sign up now.

The European Union (EU) is preparing binding guidelines for wireless carriers to allow VoIP services such as Skype to run over their cellular network. EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding stated that there "action" should be taken against carriers that use their market power to block "innovative services."
