]]>Though freeSWITCH and Asterisk are well-known in USA and Kamailio and Asterisk are well-known in Europe and Asia, more interest than ever is evident with the increased number of Kamailio World 2016 signups from the Americas over the period of time since Kamailio World 2015 conference.
Why? Web services and WebRTC are two reasons with the popularity among people in all works of life who are providing medical advice, music performance, language instruction, preview of events, and such via Blab.im, Periscope, FreeConferenceCall, ZipDX, Hangout, GoLiveWith (TBL soon) and other like web communications apps. New video live streaming and conferencing apps launch regularly that support 1, 2, 3, 4 and more videos at one time, often accompanied by features such as recording, high-fives, shared text chat and call in options such as phone numbers and SIP. Some of the platforms listed above "realize" that any given participant may find her or himself with no or poor Internet available, so calls via direct inward dialing (DID numbers) are a choice, too.
According to several CPU usage tests, Kamailio is proven more economical than other open source commmunications platforms. For example, Asterisk can be easily fronted with Kamailio to make large scale WebRTC a reality. Kamailio supports SIP over Websockets. With just a few changes in one's configuration, Websockets can be enabled. Now, users can communicate not only in different combinations of soft phone to/from handset to/from PSTN, but also to/from web browser.
What's the big deal? Kamailio helps make unified and rich communications more effective, more accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Websocket clients work well behind network translation devices and firewalls. Several Kamailio modules help make this possible including outbound, stun, and websocket.
Readers are invited to register for Kamailio World and check out Kamailio mailing list for more information. Visit the TMC WebRTC Community, too.
Thank you to Peter Dunkley, WebRTC expert, technical director at Xura, previously with Acision and Crocodile RCS, who co-wrote today’s blog post.
Great talking with Daniel-Constantin Mierla, co-founder of Kamailio and Givoanni Maruzzelli of OpenTel.IT and active FreeSWITCH community contributor!

Facts suggest why India Convergence is an event, a gathering of so many bright innovators and service providers. According to TRAI’s monthly telecom subscription report, there are more than 996.66 million unique mobile subscribers now in India. Just in the month of September 2016, it gained 8.49 million new subscribers. Reliance Jio began consideration to acquire a VoIP licence in mid 2015. At the end of October 2015, Indian Angel Network (IAN) shelled out an undisclosed investment in UK-based VoIP service provider Aznog (formerly known as CalLiberate). During the same time period, Infosys announced it would spend $70 million to purchase an information management consultancy that can bring next-generation data analytics to oil and gas clients. In early October 2015, Sistema Shyam Teleservices announced it would launch a set of Internet calling plans. The move would make it the first telecom operator to conspicuously bypass traditional partnerships by encouraging subscribers to make and/or receive national and international long-distance calls using any OTT (over the top) voice services app such as FaceTime, Google Chat, Messenger, Nimbuzz, Skype, Tringme, Viber, Virtual Phone Line, WhatsApp and others. Sistema Shyam Teleservices is Russia's Sistema JSFC Indian unit.
Bharti Airtel Ltd's chairman Sunil Mittal recently noted that the company is open to acquiring assets and spectrum. He said that Mukesh Ambani with the start of his Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (mentioned earlier) $15 billion fourth-gen wireless services would shake up India's telecommunications industry. On the other hand, Vodafone India Ltd plans to merge four of its operating businesses ahead of a share listing as an IPO soon.
Messaging and VOIP application maker Nimbuzz plans to hire 100 engineers which will practically double personnel within a year. The Gurgaon-based cmopany plans to tap into new business revenues in the WiFi and advertising spaces. Vikas Saxena is its CEO. (I've mentioned Nimbuzz several times on Monetizing IP communications blog.)
Mobile, wireless, VoIP, OTT, Internet of Things and telecommunications, in general, are poised to be the springboard for exciting new business and for the growth of industry giants and up-and-coming players. Don't miss India Convergence January 20 - 22, 2016. Be sure to set up flight plans to include ITEXPO East scheduled January 26 - 28, 2016. I'll be at both, gathering information about these players' opportunities as well as yours and sharing it to promote the business development needed. Just meet me at both!

AfricaCom is the venue to meet face to face with some of the world’s most impressive ITSPs such as PCCW Global. They are known for their top quality voice and data global network and also for how they enable service providers to achieve the growth they need with PCCW Global's “as-a-service” solutions. They offer OTT Video, Managed Security and Unified Communications.
OTT Video
In October 2015, they partnered with South Korean content delivery network specialist Solbox to provide cloud-based video delivery technology for PCCW's media business.
Not long after in late October 2015, PCCW Media, launched Viu Over-the-top (OTT) video service, a global innovative Internet video platform. Its first public availability was in Hong Kong. The company has plans to successively expand throughout Asia such as in India, the Middle East, and more. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and other Asian nations could be next!
Managed Security
A PR Newswire press release, published May 28, 2015, showcased Frost & Sullivan's congratulations to PCCW Global "for addressing the connectivity demands of Sub-Saharan Africa with its IP exchange."
PCCW Global's network structure enables customers' traffic to avoid having to take chances on typical compromise via transit of networks. The traffic runs from A to B, "directly from source to destination." Its robust MPLS/IPX network and cloud-based network intelligence solution cover more than 3,000 cities around the globe. It connects to hundreds of service providers everywhere. Traditional security issues are easily resolved with its "integrated Threat Management Service, a cloud-based security system that identifies both known and unknown threats and notifies the end user about the time and type of attack. PCCW Global then blocks the attack at the source and mitigates the impact to the customer."
Frost & Sullivan granted recognition to PCCW Global with the 2015 Sub-Saharan African (SSA) Connectivity Solutions Customer Value Leadership Award. PCCW Global's high-performance IPX-enabled networks also garnered it a place among the shortlist for the prestigious Breakthrough LTE Development Award 2015 by AfricaCom.
Unified Communications
In June 2015, PCCW Global acquired Syntelligence, the group holding company that owns Voxclever, a UK hosted Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) provider, and that also owns Weavesys, the software development business that develops advanced service orchestration platform for unified communications.
Hosted PBX services are very popularly integrated with UCaaS offerings because people want to be able to take advantage of corporate voice, video, and mobility features for increased convenience and productivity. Corporates, startups, and company team members must be mobile while working with their own preferred devices. As a result unified communications solutions are in HIGH DEMAND.
PCCW Global, HKT's international operating division, covers an impressive list of countries, 140 exactly, with bases in Belgium, China, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, UAE, UK, and USA. The place to be to meet with companies such as PCCW Global November 17 -19, 2015 is at AfricaCom in Cape Town, South Africa.
Other exciting conferences and exhibitions that have large components that target telecommunications, mobile, wireless, IoT, channel, apps and other hot products, services and opportunities include ITEXPO East scheduled January 25 – 28, 2016 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Capacity Asia scheduled November 30 – December 2, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand; and Enterprise Connect (more USA domestic-oriented) scheduled March 7 – 10, 2015 in Orlando, Florida. CEO of TW Telecom Ms. Larissa Herda is keynote speaker on Sunday for COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012 Their annual CEO Breakfast for Comptel members only will listen to speaker CEO Royce Holland of Masergy, a software cloud company. Mr. Jerry James says you'll be able to gather information from and develop business with service providers for retail and wholesale, vendors for thoses service providers, engineering experts (which he notes that everyone has to have), and also legal and taxing authorities. Participants will be able to take part in a golfing event on Sunday. Monday night, one of their members, from BTI of Canada, will entertain with his own band to the crowd of around 2000. Three percent of the attendees of COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012 are international. (I believe that ITEXPO attracts about 15 % international. Approximately 55 % of the DIDX wholesale membership is international, all service providers and wholesale telecom entities. I'll check on the accurate figures for ITEXPO West and East and also DIDX soon.)
Mr. Jerry James mentions one cool feature that COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012 offers that most do not ... a business planner, somewhat like the one that Jeff Pulver used to use with the VON shows. Everyone is connected in advance to all other attendees who will be at COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012. Each can start networking and setting up meetings before COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012 even begins.
Sounds like they have taken the best of other conferences and put them all into one great experience. So, if you're already at ITEXPO West in Austin (which is absolutely productive and rewarding) this week, don't go back home Friday. Head over to Dallas for COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012! Visit http://www.comptel.org or http://www.comptelplus.org. ]]>
Running races are one of the least expensive and easiest kinds of athletic events to produce. A majority can walk and/or run. Experiencing an event like running a race together where everyone has to work hard, sweat, laugh, and feel the adrenaline and power together ... it's unforgettable. The business friendships will last forever. *
Technology conferences and exhibitions like Asian Carriers Conference can change one's team, business, and life in the most positive ways, both professionally and educationally because this is where businesspeople feel welcome among friends and strangers and where they can network, teach, learn and collaborate face to face. No time wasted! For the first time, the providers of DIDXchange are recommending ACC 2012 in addition to ITEXPO, 4G Wireless Evolution (also known as Mobility Tech Zone), 4G World, and 4G LatinAmerica for business development and partnership building.
I began talking to Philippines Long Distance Telephony Company team members about Asian Carriers Conference in early 2011 and am excited to participate for the first time on September 4 - 7, 2012 in Cebu, Philippines. The producers have chosen the classy Shangri-La Resort Hotel as its venue. Am I excited? Big wink! Of course.
What will we get to do? Number one is the plenary sessions that are purposely planned to encourage debate and discussion instead of "business as usual." How refreshing is that? In fact, these sessions will be so much better than typical conference fare in many technology events of commercialized type presentations that are just a summary of a company's website. But ... now, where there is debate and discussion, there is a greater potential for innovation. Second cool thing about ACC 2012, the IP migration kickoff meetings will enable experts to connect with those telcos who need such assistance ... to migrate from traditional telephony for example, to IP telephony. No hiding in the Neanderthal ages.
In addition, ACC 2012 will include some corporate social responsibility projects for the surrounding community in Cebu as part of the program. Plus, what I have been asking every telecom event to include, ACC 2012 will have 3K and 5K Fun Runs for everyone to compete in on September 6th! For every registered runner, Asian Carriers Conference will give $50 to the corporate social responsibility project chosen!(Browse http://www.asiancarriersconference.com for more and sign up to participate.)
My podcast team felt quite honored when Edgar Antonio, the Head of Carrier Marketing and Product Development at PLDT, agreed to let us record a conversation with him about Asian Carriers Conference 2012 and what is the latest for Philippines Long Distance Telephone company.
ACC was first organized in 2005 with 200 delegates participating. Wholesale telecom carriers met to conduct bilateral meetings and networking sessions. By year 2011, Asian Carriers Conference had doubled its attendance until it reached over 1000 in total. It won the Best Telecom Conference Award in 2011 during the 1st Asian Conference Summit and Awards which took placed during CommunicAsia held in Singapore in June 2012. Philippines Long Distance Company, Smart Communications and Sun Cellular event hosts for ACC. Its sponsors and partners are the most esteemed in the industry: Verizon, T-Mobile, Airtel, HGC, Telenor, Sify, AT&T, Bangla Trac, DIDX and others.
Click to stream the conversation or download and listen any time even if you are offline to the 17 minute audio podcast between me and Edgar Antonio of PLDT. Some of the items of great interest I discovered regarding PLDT include thei recent investment grade status by Standard & Poor's global credit rating system and increasingly diversified portfolio of products such as wireless, fixed line, and broadband services, that serve individuals, homes, retail consumers and corporate customers. Their BPO sector is pretty impressive also in both voice and non-voice verticals.
Business persons and companies can sign up now to participate in Asian Carriers Conference, scheduled September 4 - 7, 2012 at http://www.asiancarriersconference.com.

Noreen Rucinski was one of thirty businesswomen who participated in the Women in Telecom and Technology Breakfast which was sponsored by 4GWE Summit at ITEXPO East, Xorcom.com, DIDX.net, and TheSIPSchool.com. We each, like Noreen does in the video, share ideas, experiences, and knowledge that often lead to lasting friendship and business development during and after meetup.
Nowadays, people will find Noreen Rucinski basically making companies better. Contact her on Linkedin, and be sure to send the women in your company to the next Women's Technology Breakfast at a conference near you.
The Women's Technology Breakfast, sometimes called Women in Telecom and Wireless or Women in Telecom and Technology, is a serendipitous, informal event that any ladies can put together. There is no patent for it. ;-) But it is a great opportunity for women to share success tips, hilarious stories, technical expertise, friendship and business development. Take a risk, set up your own ad hoc Women in Technology Breakfast and share the pictures and videos and knowledge with us and the world.
