Proactive Care Puts Operators One Step Ahead

By Thomas Fuerst, Senior Director, Multimedia Solutions MarketingAlcatel-Lucent

Monitoring and analyzing network data proactively saves operators time, money, and customers.

When a network service fails, it makes headlines, ticks off customers, and costs that network operator money. When a failure is headed off in advance, on the other hand, there might not be praise-laden headlines, but it's newsworthy nonetheless.

The traditional approach to customer care has typically been: a disgruntled customer calls customer service and complains of a service interruption or problem; the rep, learning of it for the first time, sends out a technician the next day, and eventually finds a resolution. Often, customers are left feeling put out, and the operator has spent significant time and money resolving the problem. Even worse is the customer who doesn’t call and just feels this is ‘typical’ of their network experience.  That is a customer at risk of leaving.

Proactive care flips this dynamic on its head by using predictive analytics to identify potential outages or errors in the network and stop them before they occur. It consists of three main parts: one, constantly monitoring and measuring data on the network; two, real-time analysis of the data; and three, the most important, acting on that analysis to fix the problem.

Monetize your IP Communications for a Net School Group

May 5, 2009

I feel certain that the readers of this blog are the real telephony experts, early adopters, think tank types, not me, so that is why I am asking you to check this request from a school on the web group.

They are looking for a system where people can call in from a cell phone line in El Salvador. Their call would be answered by inputting a PIN #.

Then they could have an option to listen to voice mail prompts--questions or multiple choice, respond and playback their recording. If these files could be saved as .wav files that would be best.

We asked and Inc.com answered

May 1, 2009

Inc.com has extended the deadline to May 22, 2009 to apply for the Inc.com 5000 list. Many of us asked them to do this because some of the most qualified companies need more time to gather their financials and fill the registration form. Good luck!

CommunicAsia 2009 Gone Extremely Mobile and Global

April 30, 2009

CommunicAsia 2009's mobile feature is a hit! They have launched the mobile site, empowering attendees easy access to information on the go before and during the show.

Thanks to the services and tools from Blueprint, Yahoo!'s mobile development platform, the CommunicAsia2009 mobile site showcases information in a format that is specifically designed for mobile phones.

Some key areas on the site include daily news updates of the show, event highlights, shuttle bus services, program timings and locations, floor plans and more. What I might have given to have this easily available to me at some of the 26 conferences we participated in last year.

So Many Hits on the FreeSWITCH Post! Interest in HD Conferencing

April 28, 2009

It was simply a matter of friendship but also the strong interest on the part of several thousand members of DIDX that encouraged me to interview Anthony Minessale and Brian West of FreeSWITCH™ yesterday in podcast format. I didn't realize how many would listen in. Some asked for more information especially about the HD conferencing progress.

Just a two letter prefix "HD" to telephony is a hit around the globe. Anthony explains in an article on FreeSWITCH™ site the original definition, history, and technology of HD.

Need a Marketing Guru for your IP Communications Co.?

April 27, 2009

I am the luckiest person on earth sometimes to be surrounded by so many positive and inspiring persons in the IP communications industry, from open source developers to entrepreneurs to early adopters and we can't leave this group out... those marketing experts. But Jaymie Scotto, Michael Corr, and Ilyssa Miller's successful efforts in the last area moved me to get an interview recorded at didx.net/podcast.

I met Jaymie online when I asked a question about how to use the Deal Center for Comptel 2007. I was expecting a curt, probably rude answer, but instead was told in a few kind words what to do and even a phone call to guide me through.

FreeSWITCH™ always open

EU to Force Wireless Carriers to Cell Phone VoIP?

April 16, 2009

The European Union (EU) is preparing binding guidelines for wireless carriers to allow VoIP services such as Skype to run over their cellular network. EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding stated that there "action" should be taken against carriers that use their market power to block "innovative services."
