Alcatel-Lucent has come out with trio of new services aimed at helping network operators and developers more easily enable and create new applications that are manageable, reliable, scalable and secure. The company's Open API Service is a hosted service for application developers to access network capabilities. The service is powered by a standards-based platform. With this hosted service, developers can access critical network information through a common API.

 

Application enablement is a new business and network model that enables the combination of the trusted capabilities of service providers with the speed and innovation of the Web to enable a new generation of services and provide both consumers and business users with richer experiences, according to officials with the Paris-based company.

 

In conjunction with the rollout of its Open API Service, Alcatel-Lucent has launched a new Web site, which includes an interactive blog and forum. In the blog, Alcatel-Lucent's Mark Hudson wrote: "Network APIs are a gold mine for wireless carriers and developers. Access to location info alone, is a boon to any app, providing exciting, new and memorable service experiences consumers are willing to pay for. It's a win-win for all involved."

 

To develop and introduce the advanced applications and services that end users want, service providers must find a profitable balance between adoption rates and development costs. With the OAS, for example, you can mash up location data with Web 2.0 services for rapid personalized service innovation while leveraging the company's "best-in-class" geo-fencing capabilities.
