Five Ways to Boost Revenue in a Changing Wireless World

In the days when wireless technology, the Internet and applications  rule, network operators are in a constant struggle to fulfill the demand for new Web applications. Meanwhile, application and content providers face a quandary of their own - the need to enhance the end-user experience.

While the two problems are dissimilar, network operators and application providers  have a common solution to address those concerns : Application enablement from Alcatel-Lucent.
Application enablement offers users an enhanced experience that they can access on any device at anytime. It links the capabilities of the network and Internet to help users transform to a more stable model to drive new revenue sources. With it, network providers can strengthen their position and increase their relevance with customers.

As technology becomes more advanced and customer demand grows for more wireless applications, network providers and application developers need to switch up their marketing tactics to give consumers and businesses what they want, and in the form they want it.

Alcatel-Lucent outlined five tips in a white paper  called, "Application Enablement: Delivering a Trusted Web Experience to Increase Revenue," about how network operators and application developers can boost revenue from building a compelling business model that enhances users experiences.

  •  Put the end-user experience first
Any strategy that network providers or application developer devise must answer the following questions:
What services do end users want? How do they want them delivered? Which ones will they pay a premium to use? Providers and developers that can answer those questions are heading in the right direction to benefit from new business.

  •  Expose key capabilities

The key element for application enablement is that network providers, as well as content and application providers bring key capabilities to the equation. Both groups need to address their pain points. For example, network providers can expose certain capabilities in controlled way. When combined with applications, the offerings give users an enriched and trusted user experience.

  • Think fast and be creativity

Other important elements needed to drive revenue in the ever changing wireless world are speed and creativity. Application and content providers can offer both. But to be successful, providers need to balance the need for speed with creative approaches to launch news services.

  • Embrace change

End users don't care to know what goes on behind the scenes to use the services they want and need. For them, it's all about the experience. Change is inevitable, and network operators and service providers need to wrap their arms around 'change'  by developing new business models to keep pace with the times and consumer demands.

  • Create a value proposition

Network operators and application providers should expand the value they offer to end users, as well as to each other. Alcatel-Lucent research shows that end users are more than willing to pay more for content and specific features that go beyond the status quo and offer value. In turn, network providers give users a rich experience that helps build relationships with content and application providers, which then brings in additional revenue.
