Vidtel Makes WebRTC Available with MeetMe

January 31, 2013

WebRTC is an open-source application interface that allows real-time services like voice, video, and data sharing to work within a web browser. Vidtel's MeetMe and Gateway services both natively support WebRTC, empowering businesses to utilize video conferencing in entirely new ways.

VidTel's MeetMe service is an any-to-any cloud-based video conferencing service. To better explain that, it means that a customer can get video conferencing in the cloud, with no complex, costly bridges to maintain on-premise; even better, the Vidtel service also supports any-to-any, so in addition to supporting Cisco/Polycom/etc video devices, it also supports Google Talk, Skype.....and now, attendees calling in directly from a web browser via WebRTC.

Is Cold Calling Dead?

January 28, 2013

"When was the last time someone cold called you at work and actually got you interested in doing business with them?"

Here's the big problem with that question: people don't buy the way you buy!"

"B2B marketers reported cold calling as their third-highest quality lead generation channel." The author, Derek Singleton, continues by saying "the Web has afforded us other ways that make it easier to identify leads without cold calling. For instance, prospects might download your white paper, visit your website, or follow you on Twitter."

The transportation industry is more efficient due to a new start-up that launched. Parallels, Cisco, Google and Panda

January 21, 2013

If every day feels like you are on a hamster wheel, maybe you are examining the wrong metric.

An interesting announcement today two weeks before thier customer summit, Cisco bought a stake in Parallels and gets a Board seat.

Parallels is the middleware for many cloud providers, customers that Cisco would like to sell a lot of stuff through. This might be a response to the cooling relationship between Cisco and VMware, according to reports.

January 17, 2013

With just a couple of weeks until we hit Miami Beach for ITEXPO East 2013, here's what I will be doing there.

VoIP in 2013

January 17, 2013

It's January and people are still making predictions about 2013. Dave Michels wrote a nice piece about the history of Level3's 3Tone service, which I was pretty familiar with due to four of my clients rushing into the void to sign up - just as Level3 was aborted the service. I view this move by Level3 as one reason that I don't see Jim Crowe as the visionary others do.

Today, we see VoIP Innovations rolling out a complete wholesale private label VoIP service.

The Pivot to Attractiveness

January 17, 2013

I spoke with Mike Cassidy at SUTUS this week. SUTUS is finally seeing success after years of trying to find its niche in the SMB PBX space. SUTUS had a couple of pivots along the way - and usually a new CEO to go with each pivot.

Now they are on the path to success due to stumbling upon a vertical.

Nutty News Monday

The list of the worst CEO's of 2012 is out. How is it possible that there are no telecom CEO's on that list?

FiberLight is planting another 4,500 miles of dark fiber in Texas. Look out Alpheus.

Am I Selling Cloud?

January 7, 2013

I signed up as the first agent for Broadsoft's second customer in 2003. They were unprepared to sell via the channel, and even less prepared to market their offering in general.

In 2005, I signed up as an agent for another Broadsoft shop. It was a wholesale offering for service providers.

The War on Privacy

January 7, 2013

What are the F-Agencies doing about privacy? Nothing.

Facebook was caught following users' every movement on the web. If Facebook is open in a tab, it is tracking you - even movements in other browser tabs!

The US VoIP Report

January 4, 2013

I see a lot of reports about the telecom space. This one by E&Y sums up the industry in 2012: "Many established players are looking for new ways to cater to consumers and enterprises by buying capability in new areas." That accounts for not just a bunch of the M&A but also strategic partnerships taking place.

VoIP in the US: Market Research Report states that consumer VoIP is flat, but cable voice (VoIP) and cellular voice (also VoIP) are growth markets -- but both are primarily consumer. ???

We Start the Year With Mergers
