Verizon Invites the Channel Once More

March 20, 2015

Jon Arnold wrote up a good review of Verizon's Broad Cloud offering (VCE). One glaring problem is that it targets in the SMB market.

Arnold says that it is presented as a TDM replacement service. Why then is VCE promoted online in VZ Enterprise?

Vonage Buys Simple Signal

March 17, 2015

Big news yesterday at the CP Expo was that Simple Signal got acquired by Vonage. The Big Cheese seemed thrilled. "The deal to buy privately held Simple Signal (and its 1,600 customers, not counting white-label partners) is for $25.25M -- about $20M in cash and 1.1M in Vonage common stock," per Seeking Alpha. That was about 1.5x revenue.

Birch Buys Globalinx

February 26, 2015

It seems that Birch is acquiring more customers. In a surprise move (to me because where are they getting the money for this???), Birch on 2/17/15 agreed to acquire "the assets and customers of Globalinx Enterprises Inc.", a Rochester, NY-based Broadsoft wholesaler.

According to a letter from the company, "The decision to sell Globalinx was difficult but typical of many consolidations in the telecom industry. Our competition in this business is with Companies that are behemoths; like AT&T, Century Link, Verizon, and Level 3.

Broadsoft Buys Leonid

January 13, 2015

Oh, happy days for the folks at Leonid Systems as some of them are going home to the fold. Broadsoft bought Leonid, which means that internally that have admitted defeat in being able to make a portal that anyone would want to demo or use. At least, they were able to admit it.

The BSFT sales folks were already pushing Leonid - to the tune of $3 million in revenue per year, which will now be an inorganic blip on the revenue stream of BSFT.

Two UC Providers Cash Out

November 5, 2014

Phoenix-based Telesphere announced that Vonage would be acquiring them for $114 million in stock and cash. Teleshpere's Broadsoft-powered UCaaS revenue is just north of $40 million, so it is about 2.5x times revenue - a deal that many Cloud Comm Alliance guys will now be looking for.

This move by Vonage follows its acquisition of Vocalocity a year ago in order to enter the business voice market. The acquisition of Telesphere allows Vonage to enter the Enterprise space.

What's the Difference?

October 28, 2014

As I have been trying to add up, there has to be 2000 service providers offering some kind of Hosted VoiP. There are about 1000 ILECs of one size or another (NTCA, NCTC, ITTA) and about another 900 MSO's. In addition, the ISPs or ITSPs offering Asterisk service or using Netsapiens, Ipifony, Broad River, or other white label softswitch operator. There are 300+ Broadsoft clients in the US (main of which are ILECs and MSOs).

Notes from Connections 2014 Part Deux

October 13, 2014

More notes from BSFT Connections 2014 in the desert by friends of my at the show.

These notes are from ANPI's prezo and others. It coincides with David Byrd's blog post about the best part of UC is Presence and IM.

"Scheduled meetings should be for large groups.

Notes from Connections 2014

October 13, 2014

Broadsoft Connections kicked off with the usual festivities yesterday including a pool party and a summer fashion show. This morning it was all business as the attendees were treated to presentations (including one by ANPI's David Byrd pictured), which produced some interesting data.

Only 3 percent of business lines are Hosted PBX. <-- That means two things: lots of potential and the sales teams suck at selling HPBX.

Thoughts on the Industry Right Now

April 18, 2014

All the forecasts: have any of them been accurate? Or is it just a way to sell reports? If it is, let me know and I will start writing forecast reports too.

Think about this: "for 2013, Infonetics reported that the global market for VoIP services brought in $68 billion in revenue, an eight percent gain over 2012." [source].

What's the Skinny on M6 and the TDM Transition?

April 11, 2014

Broadsoft acquired Genband's M6 platform in 2008. Six years later, there still isn't an upgrade path. I hear that it was declared end of life, but can't confirm that in writing.

PingTone and GLOBALINX deployed BroadWorks alongside their M6 platforms (see here and here).
