Broad Notes on Hosted PBX

March 15, 2011

So at Channel Partners Expo in Vegas, it was interesting to see Broadsoft with a booth. Broadsoft customers - Momentum, Telesphere, Simple Signal and others - were exhibiting, but Broadsoft is bringing Hosted PBX knowledge and marketing directly to the Channel.

This was the second CP Expo that Broadsoft delivered a vendor session. The company (who's stock has been soaring) had a booth and a party at the expo. They are taking Hosted to the Channel.

My EarthLink Strategy

March 4, 2011

When I analyze the four CLEC components of the new EarthLink Business, I wonder what Atlanta will do with it.

Deltacom had a huge fiber network (IFN) that essentially went under-utilized. In my experience, many employees did not know about IFN. Assets like lit buildings, collocations, colo gear, and the fiber maps are crucial to revenue generation from those hard cost assets.

Two More Acquisitions

February 9, 2011

According to a letter to PAETEC employees, "Earlier today, we announced plans to acquire XETA Technologies, Inc. which will dramatically expand our capabilities to serve customers with unique, equipment-based solutions nationwide. XETA is very similar to Quagga (or what we used to call PAETEC ISG), providing innovative solutions to enterprise customers while delivering exceptional customer service."

PAETEC is using this $61M acquisition to boost its Managed Services business to the enterprise space. But at the same time they are worrying the Channel.

In other news, Tampa-based Microsoft partner, Tribridge bought Mercatus Group, a health care provider practice systems integrator.

More consolidation in the UC/Hosted PBX space per press release: Vantage Communications, the premier provider of hosted Unified Communications services, has announced it has acquired the assets, technology and customer base of Digital Ingenuity, a long established Philadelphia based VoIP Provider.

My Take on Stocks

November 10, 2010

So "BroadSoft Inc.(BSFT) shares climbed 43% after the voice-enabling software company reported third-quarter earnings that exceeded estimates," according to MarketWatch. Total revenue increased 22% year-to-year to $22.3 million; up 13% from the second quarter of 2010. License revenue increased 27% year-to-year to $12.9 million; up 22% growth from Q2 2010.

The Buzz around Hosted UC is certainly up, driven by such companies as Polycom and its PR machine.
