Really: PAETEC Sells Fixed Wireless

While surfing, I came across this page from PAETEC about how it sells Fixed Wireless services. Fixed Wireless is not cellular. It's using radios and spectrun (mainly unlicensed spectrum) to connect a customer premise to the Internet or to another location.

In this case, PAETEC is using licensed spectrum to deliver from 20Mbps to 1Gig with "99.999% (or better) circuit availability".

Two Mergers

Two resellers merged: GLOBALINX Purchases TMC for 'Robust' Agent Channel. GLOBALINX is an IP reseller. TMC is a TDM reseller. Should be interesting to see how the Bell-heads work with the Net-heads, since the thinking is way different (and so is the approach to sales).

3 Tricks to EoC

Ethernet over Copper is picking up steam. Hatteras Networks has something to do with that as they are the vendor for Metro Ethernet over Copper for former BellSouth. XO also has EoC in most of their markets. I saw an ad today from Tele-Pacific's EoC. Many of my clients - regional CLEC's - are selling G.SHDSL based services.

Billing is a Headache

Speaking with several agents, service providers and employees of carriers, I get the feeling that billing issues are more frequent today than ever before. I kind of joke that the ILEC's purposedly bill wrong to gain a 10% revenue increase, but all I hear is billing problems. And never in the customer's favor. It's always additional USOC's and old circuits and extra charges.

The other side of it is that it is a time-consuming effort to get ANY billing issue resolved.

Speakeasy is merging with the merging Covad and Megapath in a menage of sorts, according to this press release from MegaPath.

I saw New Edge Networks, the EarthLink company, joining with the other DLEC's. Didn't see this one coming.

Lit Building Strategy

Rob Powell at Telecom Ramblings has his lit building chart updated. Top 5 most lit buildings is TWT, L3, Optimum Lightpath, FiberTech and XO at 3000.

So L3 tried to sell mainly on-net via the channel. They would light any building within 400 feet of a fiber route.

The first question is about the bundling of the SUTUS Business Central 200 for the Channel. MegaPath's priority is Inter-operability with IP-PBX vendors like SUTUS. MegaPath is the SIP Trunking Partner, pushing leads back to the VAR/Integrator/dealer network, including a rebate off the hardware (if available).
