More Trade Show Tips

September 8, 2010

Here are some more links to some helpful tips for your trade show schedule.

First up, HOW TO: 10 Tips on Presenting at Conferences. Let me summarize: PowerPoint is NOT to be read to the audience and remember the 10-20-30 Rule by Guy Kawasaki (video)!

There's a rather long slide show on slideshare called Steal This Presentation.

Trade Show Follow Up

September 8, 2010

As we enter the fall telecom trade show season, here's a link to an excellent article about How to Turn Trade Show Leads Into Clients. Number # 1 is to actually Follow Up Creatively!!

For many salespeople, following up is more like, "So do you want to buy now?" When it should involve demonstrating value. How? Ask interesting questions. Send cards, e-vites, news clippings, joke-a-day-vm, etc. Stop being boring -- but better boring than not following up at all.

See you at ITEXPO -- ask me for more tips in LA!

GROWCO Tidbits

March 17, 2010

So I was at INC magazine's GROWCO conference this week. I wasn't too thrilled with the majority of the content - speakers were off-topic or just blowhards. But here are a bunch of ideas:

"Fear is necessary," said George Foreman. It was reiterated by many others because fear means that you are uncomfortable and growth only happens when you are uncomfortable.

Blind Items

March 4, 2010

Some buzz I picked up at the Channel Partners Expo.

What company is working on a certification program for its agents?

A company is going to be giving a big surprise DEMO later this month.

Merger rumors were active at the show. Who will buy Deltacom? What will happen to Qwest?

One CLEC has an agent agreement issue, which is why it isn't getting much  traction right now.

There is one carrier selling IPv6 at such a low rate, even Cogent is jealous.

One long-haul carrier is offering waves for less than a cup of jow per meg.

TEDx Tampa Bay: Happiness is the Key

February 13, 2010

I was at TEDx Tampa Bay yesterday. (It's a local franchise under the TED umbrella. Charles Armstrong of SparkLabs is Tampa Bay's Steve Jobs - wait till you see the Tour Wrist. He stated in his talk, "The limits of what's possible is bound only by the limits of our innovators' imagination."

We saw this at ITEXPO East 2010 a couple of weeks ago. There are many companies that are banging out really neat stuff. Our industry has a bunch of   brilliant stars - many of whom where in the Cloud Summit.

Guy Hagen summed it up during his TEDx talk: This economic storm is riddled with opportunity for creativity and innovation.

iEXPO

January 29, 2010

With all the iHype about the new Apple iPad - and all the disappointment with the new gadget - and all the jokes and subsequent lawsuit about the name - I think it might be time to rename ITEXPO, TMC's iEXPO.

If you saw all the attendees staring at their iPhone (mainly wondering why they couldn't get a signal!). And I think half the booth giveaways were an Apple i-gagdget. So I propose that we call it the iEXPO.

Noted: Moshe Maeir says we just need to call it the iTEXPO.

The Social Media Panel Wrap Up

January 25, 2010

In a follow up to the Social media panel write up, here are the slides (and a few extra thoughts from yours truly)

Blogging, LinkedIn, forums, wikis, Facebook, Twitter, Google Wave, YouTube, podcast, etc. Each is a tool for your communication.

Each is different and reaches a varied audience.

Making Money in IP Communications

January 20, 2010

In a room filled with VAR's, inter-connects and VoIP resellers (and one investor), our ITEXPO panel this morning discussed making money from IP communications.

How does the indirect channel make money from IP? It is SO different from TDM. This isn't really plug-and-play services.

Unsubscribe and Permission

November 17, 2009

Seth Godin wrote Permission Marketing in 1999. Ten years later, most media companies don't understand the concept still. As Seth explains in the book and in his blog numerous times, when I give you my email address, it is a trust issue. I trust that you will not spam me; inundate me with off-topic email; and most importantly not sell my email address to third parties -- even if they are your partners.

All too often, when I sign up for an event, I get inundated with email from the vendors of the event.
