Voxox Gets Original

March 4, 2014

Voxox's marketing maven, Tristan Barnum, has introduced original entertainment content as a way to get some attention for its partners and products. In a world of telecom where every booth at a show says the same thing, it's nice to see some creativity in the Hosted VoIP space.

"Voxox's first original entertainment content initiative is titled ROFL: A Rhinoceros and Octopus Find Love, which features weekly "high art" graphic-novel-type imagery as well as minimalist archetypal imagery throughout the week. A new episode is posted to Twitter each workday at noon.

Telecom Tidbits Part 133

January 16, 2014

Master Agency Telephony Partners has re-branded as Acuity Technologies. Why the re-brand? More than just the shift to cloud, the industry will be just one - IT and telecom - "a comprehensive technology infrastructure company that can provide solutions covering the entire spectrum of technology." That's what Acuity CEO Josh Anderson is delivering and the name change is just a way to showcase that.

Panterra Networks will be unveiling a new data storage service at ITEXPO.

Another Event

October 24, 2013

It seems that more and more companies are holding events. We have plenty of trade shows, but apparently that wasn't enough. Now master agencies have shows (some have more than one). One PR firm became an event planning company.

Comcast and Synnex Equals Added Value

September 26, 2013

I hear all the time how Agents don't "Add Value". Curiously, they never explain what that "added value" is supposed to be. Agents get paid to sell your stuff, isn't that value enough?

Even more curious, carriers think VARs will add value - again without expressing what that value will be.

How Many VARs Are There Anyway

This is a LONG post. Kind of rambling. Sorry about that. But it does have some really good nuggets of info. Thanks for reading.

Channel Sales Enablement: Part 2

June 30, 2013

Every channel wants a lot of feet on the street. I just saw a master agent in New England with 160 providers in its catalog. It isn't unusual for a master agent (pick any of the big ones) to have 100 providers on its roster. Let's examine that.

The Master Model for Hardware

June 10, 2013

Microcorp and Tech Data. Ingram Micro and CenturyLink. Ingram and TWC.

CDW is the hardware distributor with a full service telecom agency. Tech Data comes close with its long standing deal with XO and its TDMobility that is a cellular master agency.

And now ScanSource has partnered up with Intelisys (a master agency).

Business is a Thinking Man's Sport

May 9, 2013

When I heard Mark Sanborn call business a thinking man's spot, it made me smile and then think. Oddly, most of these news items have all fallen in my lap today. It made me re-think how the value added distributors (VADs), like Tech Data, were going to morph.

Tech Data is the 2nd largest VAD at $26 Billion after Ingram Micro (at $37.8 Billion in sales), but TD is located in Tampa Bay, where I reside.

Everything is Changing, No One is Happy

Belkin is buying Linksys from Cisco, who is exiting the consumer business. What are they doing with the Scientific Atlantic set-top boxes?

Logitech is dumping some of its product lines as it re-vamps.

Andy says that Yahoo! Voice is shutting down.
