We saw Cbeyond's purchase of both Aretta Communications and MaximumASP for what appears to be 3.5x anual revenue today.

I Cannot Keep Up. CBEY Maxes Cloud

Cbeyond, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBEY), a leading provider of IT and communications services to 55,000 small businesses across the country, today announced that it has acquired the assets of privately held MaximumASP and its affiliated companies, as well as the outstanding stock of privately held Aretta Communications. MaximumASP provides cloud services such as managed virtual servers and dedicated servers, and Aretta Communications provides cloud services such as cloud PBXs (private branch exchange) and SIP (Session Internet Protocol) trunking. Both companies target small- and medium-sized businesses throughout the U.S.

Geckotech Acquired by M5

M6 powered Geckotech out of Chicago was acquired by VoIP pioneer M5 Networks. M5 is based in New York City with offices in Chicago (at least in 2008 when I was working their).

Geckotech made the 2009 and 2010 INC 5000 lists with 2009 revenue of $4.7M, up from $1.9M in 2006. Geckotech was founded in 2003 and has 14 employees.

M6 Migration

Apparently, this article produced a small bruha at Broadsoft Connections 2010 this week.  The service providers on M6 have a lot at stake - like all their customers. The M6 user group is a fairly vocal contigent as well.

It's a double-edged sword: M6 has features that BroadWorks does not and vice versa.

Add Some Skinny to Broadworks

Genband M6 platform is a softswitch that allows service providers to utilize Cisco IP phones running Skinny. The problem has been that Broadsoft, which bought Genband's M6 platform, has completed the process of adding the M6 feature set to the Broadworks platform. There are a bunch of M6 companies wondering what to do, because migrating customers from one platform to the new one (M6 to standard Broadworks) would be painful. (Thing re-configure every phone!)

Today, CommX merged with PressONE.

Broadvox and Cypress: What Now?

Broadvox and Cypress acknowledged the merger rumors on Thursday, announcing that they were still working out the details of the merger. (TMC broke the story here). Both companies wanted to assure customers that it will be business as usual.

Executives told TMC that no product lines were in danger.

Broadvox Inks Deal to Acquire Cypress

And so the VoIP Consolidation continues. (This is a good thing for two reasons: I need something to write about and this industry has too many players mucking about.)

Rumor has it that Broadvox has inked a deal to acquire Cypress Communications, a deal that they had been working on for months. No details have been released yet.

Broadsoft Acquires Casabi

I received a tip that Broadsoft was buying Casabi and a link to a PR website that had this to say:

"BroadSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: BSFT), the leading global provider of IP-based communications services to the telecommunications industry, today announced it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Campbell, California-based Casabi, Inc., a privately held provider of innovative, cloud-based personalized content and messaging applications."

"Casabi empowers cable, fixed-line and mobile telecommunications service providers to expand their consumer offerings to include fixed-line SMS, customized information services and tools that keep families organized. Through this hosted application, family members can send text message blasts to any phone number (fixed-line or mobile), access voicemail, make real-time updates to a family calendar, and share a network address book."  [I am waiting word back from Broadsoft.]

This clearly plays into the roadmap at Broadsoft of more MRC based offerings. This acquisition also assists Broadsoft customers in two ways: a tool for SMS messaging and a differentiator for service bundles.
