Gender Diversity Benefits

October 9, 2015

The panel I moderated at CVX Expo last week in Anaheim was original. Women in the Channel presented a discussion on Gender Diversity with Nancy Ridge (Vice President, Telecom Brokers and President & Co-Founder, Women in the Channel); Nicole Hayward (SVP of Marketing & Product Management at OnSIP Business VoIP) and Michael Oeth (CEO of OnSIP Business VoIP).

The slides have been published on Slideshare. Take a look.

Value-Driven Leadership

October 1, 2015

Is there a connection between culture, values and profit? In building a company that is built to last. I would concur with Jim Collins' research that there is a connection.

INC magazine through the Small Giants Community has started a 3-year research project with the Center for Values-Driven Leadership at Benedictine University to examine the connection between culture, values and profit.

A Lesson from Airlines

September 28, 2015

Have you noticed that the airlines are a lot like the telecom industry? Both used to be regulated; now neither are. Both had a bubble resulting in bankruptcies. Consolidation happened in both industries - with a disaster for consumers.

While search slideshare (now LinkedIn slideshare), I saw this slide, which sums up customer expectations as well as a conversation I saw having with Pete Davis of Panterra.

BYOD is not just an IT PITA (pain-in-the-@ss); it is about the user choosing. That is what Netflix is - user choice (including binge watching). That is what Consumerization of IT is.

The VoIP/UC Round Up # 2920

August 16, 2015

MetTel's Gary Gluzman has a 2-part look at UC. He mentions Glip and Slack, which are taking off, but I think that much of the new app collective - WhatsApp, snapchat, even Slack - are just replacements for AOL chat - and honestly have not added much to the equation.

I recently explored how one client company used Slack. Everyone liked it; however, it didn't really work.

3 Things You Need to Grow

A to Z: Alphabet and Zirtual

August 11, 2015

Google re-organized yesterday. Without a rumor about it escaping beforehand. (It shocked even Fred Wilson.) So the re-org puts Sergie and Larry in charge of Alphabet, the new holding company that now owns Google and all of the other stuff. Health, Labs, investments come out from under Google and full under Alphabet.

Sales Math and Measuring What Matters

February 18, 2015

Sales Math is the concept that you need X number of leads to make Y number of sales where Y is a tiny percentage of X. The funnel starts out with a big number and the inked deals drip out of the bottom -- with a bunch of leads lost along the way (like a leaky hose).

We all believe in Sales Math. We are delighted to be asked to quote something. Why? Pavlov response I guess - plus you can't win if you don't play.

What I learned from the NFL Playoffs

January 19, 2015

Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks gave up 5 turnovers including 4 interceptions, yet still managed to win the game - in overtime! Here are a couple of lessons from the NFL games yesterday.

Unless the game plan isn't working, stick to it the whole game. The Packers (supposedly) had a winning game plan that they gave up in the 4th quarter when they thought they had the game in the bag.

4 Tips for the Busy Executive

December 11, 2014

I have a couple of prospective clients that keep delaying projects.

One really wants to do the project but the people aren't in place yet. The time isn't right. Is the time every really right?
