Are Outages the New Normal?

Yesterday was a big outage on Level3's voice network nationwide. On any given day DownDetector is working overtime to track the numerous outages at banks, network operators, email, social networks and more.

This year I think every major carrier had an outage that lasted more than two hours. Some lasted all day.

Both sides will need to adapt. Most of the servers being bought now are being bought by the likes of Amazon, Rackspace, Facebook and Microsoft.

I think about Business Continuity all the time. In the past two months, my cable service has gone out 3 times and I have 2 power outages here in Tampa. When the Internet is down, there isn't much I can do since everything is Internet.

Key word is gradually.
