My Take on Stocks

November 10, 2010

So "BroadSoft Inc.(BSFT) shares climbed 43% after the voice-enabling software company reported third-quarter earnings that exceeded estimates," according to MarketWatch. Total revenue increased 22% year-to-year to $22.3 million; up 13% from the second quarter of 2010. License revenue increased 27% year-to-year to $12.9 million; up 22% growth from Q2 2010.

The Buzz around Hosted UC is certainly up, driven by such companies as Polycom and its PR machine.

Big Challenge Selling Hosted PBX

November 9, 2010

On LinkedIn (in the Hosted PBX group), the question was asked, "What's the biggest challenge you face selling your solution to end users and/or channel partners?" Here are some of the answers.

Can the end user trust the service delivery of the provider? This is a big question because there have been some failures in VoIP delivery over the years. VoIP has taken somewhat of a reputation hit.

The Cloud is For Agents, too

October 28, 2010

Khali Henderson of Phone+ and I are doing a webinar tomorrow for agents at TCA on The Cloud. One of the TCA Board Members, Emmet Tydings, President of AB&T Telecom, sent me this response:

"Voice is just another application in an IP world. Mobility is mandating a large portion of strategic service delivery changes within organizations.

When the Cable Giants Wake

October 26, 2010

The MSO's will be coming strong into Hosted UC next year. Four of the top 5 MSO's will be rolling out Business Hosted UC services. By the time they come to market the current crop of ITSP (Hosted VoIP Providers) better have their marketshare shored up. The ITSP has to be really sticky to their clients.

Day 1 Observations from Phoenix

October 26, 2010

I'm at the Broadsoft Connections 2010 user conference in Phoenix. The theme is Ignite Passion (for Hosted UC). These are some of my notes:

Broadsoft is pushing not just Hosted PBX but services they are calling CAAS (Communications-as-a-Service).

Broadvox and Cypress: What Now?

October 17, 2010

Broadvox and Cypress acknowledged the merger rumors on Thursday, announcing that they were still working out the details of the merger. (TMC broke the story here). Both companies wanted to assure customers that it will be business as usual.

Executives told TMC that no product lines were in danger.

Net-Heads Versus Bell-Heads

October 6, 2010

So I gave my talk today about Net-Heads versus Bell-heads at CVX (Channel Vision Expo). There is a shift happening in the telecom world. Not only is the world of IT and the world of Telecom blending, but technology is becoming even more pervasive in the business world. More technology means more problems and much more support is needed.

What to Ask Your Prospective VoIP Provider

September 29, 2010

If you are a VAR or telecom agent about to pick out a strategic partner to be the VoIP Provider that you work with, here are some things to ask the execs.

Are you a CLEC? It isn't a requirement to be a CLEC to deliver VoIP. However, if not, E-911 and porting will be done by a third-party.

The Channel and IP Comm

September 29, 2010

I presented on a webinar for the Technology Channel Association today titled How to SELLECOM Hosted PBX. We had a good turn out and many questions (which I appreciate).

One question was why I would suggest that the agent NOT ask for the bill. When selling IP Communications, it isn't about cost savings.

Bundling for Stickiness

September 10, 2010

Last year at Broadsoft Connections I did a panel on Bundling. Not many VoIP Providers bundle. Sure they offer Internet Access but that's mainly for QOS. What do they offer that makes them STAND OUT?
